Our Boys Today : Sat May 21, 2011 6:17 pm
it seems a bit strange nobody else has birthed a thread about todays game so i will get in it myself. of course anything other than a Hull win was extremely unlikely but i do feel the 50 points flatters them somewhat. Without the half dozen or so mind blowing episodes of the Hicks Farce show that either led directly to tries or should have ruled out tries if seen by mr hicks (seemingly the only person who didnt see the events in question) i believe it would have been much closer.
regardless, im proud of the lads today. we still looked fairly disorganised for the most part in attack, although coming away from our own line we showed attacking adventure unheard of this season and in small spurts did show some real attacking flair.
defensive weaknesses were always going to be exposed by a superleague team but i thought on the whole (excluding mr hicks) we looked a lot better in this regard, there were many huge hits today, gang tackling, pilling on, wrestling, we did everything we needed to slow them down and give as good as we got, looked a lot more organised and composed, sliding defense was actually happening. the expected collapse never happened and they never ripped us to pieces in any great or shameful way.
a few players in particular i would like to mention; Tangi Ropati finally came alive today, thomas coyle also looked brilliant in phases (its about bloody time in both cases) i would also like to mention Steve Pickersgill who ran and tackled like a mad man today.
all in all it was very encouraging.
