I am travelling up to Widnes for our match on Sunday on train. I'm looking forward to the match, although I'm not as confident of a win as I was when we decided to go admittedly :p

Anyways, we have around an hour to kill after the game so I'm asking where would be a good place to eat after the match. I noticed that there is a McDonalds nearby but is there anywhere else that you would recommend that does nice cheap food? Even a Burger King would be preferable if there is one of those. Oh and not too far from the train station of course.

There's the Crown Inn on Birchfield Road a few hundred metres from Widnes station. That's the main road up to the station and the Crown will be on your right hand side walking back. I like the food in the Crown and is close to the Station.Not that cheap but a decent place.Whetherspoons or the Imperial in Town is cheaper but a 15 min walk to the stadium.But for ease I would say go the Crown pub.Anyway have a good day and the Sports bar at the stadium has cheap drinks.

As said above the crown is probably your best option as its close to the train station, if you want something a little better try spoons in town, its around a 15 to 20 minute walk from the station.

Come on VM, you're not suggesting the foods better in Spoons are you ?

Granted beers better and cheaper in Spoons but if the OP is after quality and location (train) then the Crowns the better one - but it comes at a premium!

There's also the Ring O Bells (again a premium for quality) a further 5 mins walk past the station with a possible stop off at the madhouse (The Griffin)

Thanks for your suggestions, but I'm so sorry I forgot to mention a very important detail and I feel so stupid now

I'm only 17 so while I would love to try the pub grub on offer, I doubt they'll let me in since I'll be without an adult. Sounds like McDonalds will be my only option then, unless there are some nice chippy's or something to recommend


I will be looking forward to the game anyway thanks It will be my last away game of the season anyways since I'll be switching to football for the rest of the year so let's hope it's a good one

Now then young man. Maccies is turn left out of the ground down Lowerhouse Lane and Pauls Chippy - pretty good is just on the right of the ground to the left up Lowerhouse Lane.

Now, not that I'm condoning underage drinking but if you're telling me you haven't had a sniff of the barmaids apron at 17 then that fresh North Sea air must keep you in good stead with the complexion of a new born.....still, nowt stopping you having some grub in the pub so long as you stay off the grog!!

Haha yeah I wish in these kinds of situations I could but I have no chance of passing myself off as an adult, I still get ID'd just for a lottery ticket. For complexion it obviously proves that the North Sea> Irish sea (At least it'll be an advantage on my next birthday anyways :p )

So Maccy D's or Pauls then? Bleh I'll decide on the day then, see how I feel thanks for all your help

EDIT: Just looked on Google maps and noticed Pauls does everything including chinese food and kebabs as well as the usual fish'n'chips. Sounds like a winner to me

I wouldn't worry about it mate, im 28 and I still get asked for ID, though annoyingly its usually by some twonk 10 years younger than me.
