Going against my principles here once again but, I have to say the thread on TIW regarding 'fans having a history' of jumping on the 'abuse the team' bandwagon is near enough spot on. Wasn't around to witness past glories as i am only 20, but as far back as I can remember Widnes fans have always got on the players' backs. Something i feel really strongly about.
OK if there has been a on field fraud going on, ie most of 2005 season with the usual suspects such as Emelio, Craigie Wozniak and the rest of the funny farm then i do agree, fans have a right to voise their concerns and constructively critiscise the players. The odd boo etc, however there are boundaries that shouldn't be crossed which is in the best interest for all parties, ie club, sqaud and fans alike.
But I get the impression a lot of our supporters, most notably older fans feel we should be winning week in week out and have a god given right to be doing well. This is simpy not the case, the squad PC has in front of him has been inherited and there will no doubt be an exodus in the ensuing months, but in the mean time as fans of the great club/town I believe firmly it is our duty to back the club and EVERYONE associated with it. Some people expect far too much. OK fax are probably the pick of the bunch at present, but who knows we could be singing 'the times are a changing' come May or June, or even come GF time in September.
But what was eveident at Fax was; certain sections of the crowd trying to jee everyone up and sing and shout and get behind the team and will them on to win, and the over-riding majority just passive and dull.We need to lift our lads where ever we happen to be playing. If you want to boo and get on their backs at every opportunity then sit yourself down and question why you 'support' this club?
