I'm bothered. I want widnes to be in super league where we have a chance to compete for bigger prizes and will hopefully be more financially secure with more fans coming to see us. I'm happy with an NRC win but let's not pretend that we wouldn't be happier with a chance to win the Challenge cup instead. We're widnes. We have a right to be in the top league and I want to see us there.

At the end of the day we need Super League because if we dont go up in 2012 mr O'connor wont be at the helm of the ship. And on that initial note i think Super league needs us!

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity

Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

A few weeks ago they slagged Wigan off after a defeat for the way they walked off the field. The video they showed was in 2008. They even mentioned Barrett FFS.

This is history. This is history. Right here. Right now. This is history.

I thought it was Widnes?
All games are winnable, whats hard to understand about that.

Wakefield turn over a big club every season and i see no reason why Widnes can't do the same.
These people of which TIW has some, saying stuff super league are stupid! We need to be competing at the top level. Our history says so, ou facilities say so, our coaching and off-the-field management team says so.

Our town says so. It's one of rugby leagues strongest places, still.

I want us in the top league stealing games and taking names. I want to see a buzz about the town again. I want us to stamp our mark on the game like we know we can. We deserve more than what we get, we've been let down and we deserve better.

From super league we can assemble a squad to take the challenge cup, not just hope to get a big team and put up a good show.

From super league we can offer more attractive terms to our youth team, the promise of playing for your home town club in the top league will be enough to keep a lot of them and we cannot offer that right now.

From super league we can attract more fans. Yes they are stay aways, but that's the nature of people. You can't blame them. We have die hards, and we have potential customers. We'd like those back and can get them if we offer them bigger matches. Asking someone to pay around £50 for their family to come see us is easier if we're playing St Helens than Doncaster, with all due respect to our friends down there.

In super league we will be more of a presence. We will make more headlines, we will be more of an influence. This will bring in more revenue and make our future more secure.

I want super league, gentlemen. We want super league. And they may not know it, but super league needs us! We would do a damn site better job than many currently inside!

Like i say mate, I'll believe it when i see it. Nothing stupid about not giving a poop right now. What is stupid is building my hopes up only to have my heart ripped out for a fourth time. Right now i'm enjoying the moment and that's all that matters to me. You all carry on pinning your hopes on the 'box ticking', i'm happy just pinning my hopes on us being a winning team given events over the last decade or so.

I still find the Championship boring to attend eight times out of ten. The SL days were brilliant. Packed crowds, great atmospheres and a real buzz at seeing the likes of Farrell, Sculthorpe, Long and the like strutting up to Widnes again.

I don't disagree with you - it's the "balls to Super League" issue that I disagree with which has been said in some quarters. We need to be there and rather building our hopes up we've just got to get on with the job and do the right things, be it on the pitch or off it.

an atmosphere that isn't created by people in matching shirts clapping along to a drum or novelty PA music might be nice!

Good post, and whilst I do echo your sentiments, I do feel you tend to meet some really great rl people along the way in the lower climbes of rugby league, and some great little days out. ie Batley, Donny etc.
But obviously we miss the big game atmospheres such as W**e, Sin Tellins Leeds etc.
