Am i missing something but havnt Widnes still spent up to the maximum salary cap this season and last? Basically the clubs signings have been crap and even with all this talk of "oh we could have signed the Aizues and Pauls and the like" Widnes still havnt many, if any players in their squad that would be any good at SL level. :? I mean there isnt even a single Widnes player i would be happy if Fax signed let alone letting them have a go in SL.

Honestly? I think the age of our squad actually makes us one of the best suitef for SL IMHO, as we have a lot of lads at the right age to become SL squad players at least rather than sign a whole new 25 man roster. Sides like Fax & Barrow may have taken say 4/5 into the first team but the rest would be retiring / back to Championship!

Im just thinking off the top of my head but i fancy Fax would have more players that could give it a shot in SL than Widnes. I mean most of Widnes team are average in this league let alone SL. We would have to sign a few decent fowards but i think our whole back line could make a fist of it in SL.

Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. There's a Wooly over there, baggy kecks and feathered hair

We bought younger players, with much less experience, than Halifax have. We were also blooding quite a few of our own youngsters this season too. An injury list, the like I’ve never seen before, hasn’t helped either.

ATEOTD by season two of SL (should we get there) only a few of the youngsters will probably be in the starting 13.

In the short term yes. You would still finish bottom though. I doubt that Halifax would be able to spend to the maximum of the salary cap, whereas it is likely that we will – if allowed.

Why concentrate on the youngsters then if none of them will be good enough? TBH we would be screwed if we went in to SL and things arnt looking too rosy in this division.

But we dont know if any of them will be good enough do we. If we knew that know then every sporting club which runs any kind of junior structure would cash them in and bin off the ones who wont make the grade.

You can only keep on blooding them, see some improvements which we have in the majority and try and continue this development.

I didn't say that None would be good enough. I clearly said that a few would. Hopefully the spine of the team will be home grown, as it was in the past. We needed to blood lots of youngsters to achieve this. We will also have an academy system that is as good as any in SL and will continue as an on-going process – hit the ground running so to speak.

Just doing what fax have done would put the likelihood of building the spine of the team from homegrown talent, a much longer process which may take us past the 2015 licence bid. That could cost us that licence.

Fax have always struggled when it has come to basing teams around local talent mainly due to most of them getting snapped up at an early age by our more illustrious neighbours. Then again we are also to blame for the Aussie invasion so maybe we wont get a license because we have ruined the game at National level for GB.
