sadly its true i am more used to these sort of days than i would like to be. not to say we havent had some success in recent years. but im still far more familiar with these displays than i would like.

You do have to give Huslet a lot of credit for their on-line defence. What an incredible effort from them.

I thought their attack was fairly impressive too Pepe. March is possibly one of the best players in this division on that showing? We couldn't shut him down very effectively. Complacency was probably quite a big factor after a couple of good outings to Fev and Sheffield. I don't think we expected them to keep the ball alive as well as they did but it was good rugby to watch.

l'Anson definately needs game time but I really wanted to see Gilmore or one of the other lads on the bench. They've already shown a quickness of thought in their few outings that we just haven't seen from any of the other make-weight scrum halves.

On the positive Heckenberg and Varkulis had decent afternoons.

indeed, lets not forget heck and varks, The Kavmeister was also giving it loads consistently, when few others looked like they could be arsed.

I absolutely agree, Chiris. You’re right. I think we must not lose sight of the fact that Hunslet were very good. They will be no push-overs for any team on that showing. It does seem that a lot of clubs really up their game, when they come to Widnes. This is definitely a case in point.

I would also add Kavanagh to that list of positives.

The game is about winning games and alot of these knobs need to look at themselfs.Big time charlies like Allen,Pickers, and I,Anson where poop.Thacks dummys too much for my liking.

I think you are being overly harsh there. I didn't see one player not try yesterday. None of them wanted to be one the losing side!

To me l'Anson just doesn't look fit. I don't mean in a huff and puff kind of way either but in terms of his actual movement. He looked awkward a couple of times and I'm not sure whether he's fully comfortable with his knee being out there to take the knocks yet. He probably needs to build some confidence that a tackle won't mean a year long lay off.

I can understand the criticism that Pickersgil is getting too but I think he desperately wants to make an impact and unfortunately at the moment he's going about it the wrong way. You could see all the props busting a gut to try and make an impact when they came on and in his case Pickers channeled it wrong.

In Thacks' defence, he started well but he soon reverted to the mentality that he needed to try and win the game himself and I put that down to the fact that again he was left without a suitable foil at SH. He does seem to burden the weight of expectation going forward and tries to do it all himself. In the second half there were one or two opportunities where maybe he should have given the pass but he does score some good tries with the show-and-go.

I'm in complete agreement with you that Gilmore should be on the bench though if Gore is still injured.
