Thanks firstly to downthepub for posting that. Very gracious of you as I'm still not on the site!
Steve O Connor deserves a lot of respect. I don't agree with our choice as coach so far but when we needed someone to come along with a lot of class he stepped in and got us to where we want to be and ensured that long term we will have what it takes to run a professional outfit. Shorter term, we've all been disappointed with our performances, but that's another matter now. It has not been ideal conditions for us but you'd expect more from the players. We have certainly got people talking. Innovative kits, good sponsorship, a brand new artificial pitch. This is a man not afraid to try new things and maybe his choice of betts reflects that. As a long term fan I think this is the one area we needed to be traditional and obvious. A Brian Noble, a Karl Harrison or a John Kear.
I'm happy this was a boring humdrum announcement. When they texted us I feared the worst. Just because the general reaction was, what earth shattering news could this be? Why text us beforehand? I don't think one was needed. People honestly feared he was stepping down, or addressing the doubters. And he has in a way, but a diplomatic one in any case.
But I'm glad we've got Steve on board. I'm glad we've got this level of management and here's hoping our shared championship woes become nothing more than an awkward side note in our history.
