As a Saints fan who attended the cup game, i thought that it was disgraceful how the Widnes fans had literally deserted their team and failed to show up last week.
MY view at the time was that Widnes fans must have had a wildly optimistic view of how you would perform in your first season in SL.
Especially as last week i thought you gave it a fair go against Saints.
However after watching you this week i can understand the fans frustrations, Widnes were absolute rubbish. Your players looked dis interested and didnt offer anything at all.
Saints didnt get out of second gear last night and yet were marching down the pitch at will as your players dropped off tackles. Going forward your players were powder puff with the exception of Ah Van who in the two games against Saints has worked his socks off.
One particular piece summed it up for me. Ah Van took the ball in first tackle. Made yards, got tackled played the ball, the hooker passed the ball out to the forward who trundled it up. While this happened Ah van started to make his way back to the backline, but was then shoved by a fellow player back to midfield and told to take the third drive in, which he promptly did. This all begs the question of what the hell were your forwards actually doing at this time as they should have been the ones making the third tackle hit up. Not a winger.
Looking at your team, you should be competing on a higher level than you are. Yes you should expect to get turned over by Saints or Wire etc but the score should be something like 30-10 or 40-16 not 62-0.
The way things are going i suspect you may end up one week suffering an 80 or 90 point thrashing. I certainly expect Wigan to show no mercy when you visit the DW later in the year. They will be after revenge from their earlier shock defeat.
Going forward, because of your sides abject showing this year, you will struggle to sign anyone competent at the end of this year, as no one will want to join what will be seen as whipping boys.
The coaching setup at Widnes also needs reviewing. Cullen was a complete flop at Wire and held them back for years. It now appears he is working his magic at Widnes and acting as a double agent in Wires favour. Betts also looks out of his depth and incapable of putting the fight in your players hearts and minds.
I really think you need to look down under and try to get a promising aussie coach onboard for next season.
