Ben monsters most when he plays against them, he's got great footwork for a prop and hits hard in defence. Im looking forward to Tyrers return, he does know where the line is and it will be good to see him playing in his correct position at centre. I think he will also benefit from being closer to home.

Tyrer was only at Salford last year though, that's hardly a million miles from St Helens.

Have to admit re: Tyrer I'm sorry to see him drop out of the top flight so soon. I remember seeing him at 17/18 and thinking blimey this guy is good, but for some reason he didn't kick on as expected. I do expect to see him score 20+ tries next season and who knows, perhaps Mick Nanyn has a young pretender to his throne as a point scorer?

Davies needs first team games at his age and reminds me of Dave Whittle when he played at Leigh, good player but not big enough for the top flight. Good player for the Championship though and as a Leyther I hope he proves me wrong.

I know but Salford were cannon fodder and he was played out of position on the wing, Salford is that glum it probably feels like he was a million miles away from Sintellins.

I think Ben will make it in Super League, watching him last year he really was a cut above, what he doesnt have in size he makes up for with great footwork.

If we do get Ben and Stefan i will be so made up.


Whats going on at Leyth at the minute Dave, all seems a little quiet? Nanyn is a good signing to have back. You cant knock someone who scores and kicks that many in a season.

As far as I'm aware at Leigh they are concentrating on a couple of signings and then retaining. I'm not too worried in truth, a couple of years ago in 2007 we were still signing players up until the second week of January and there is already a good chunk of players signed.

I know that IM is after a prop.

I'm hoping that at Leigh we see more of some of our younger players too. Jon Pownall was good for our reserves last season and Anthony Nicholson got better at hooker. Young Craig Briscoe could go very well while Sam Hopkins also has a lot of potential.

You can't argue with Nanyn's record, for each weakness there are obvious strengths and he didn't do too bad a job for you guys did he?

Ideally I'd like to see a centre, wing, wide running second row, halfback, hooker and prop signed. I suppose there are enough players out there on the market. I'll see what turns up in any case.

Be strange if Ben goes back. Couldn't wait to get out of Widnes at the end of last season apparently.

It would be the best deal for him though, he's down in the pecking order at Wigan but Wigan rate him, he's going to be 21 and needs games week in week out so a year long loan wouldn't do him any harm, this isn't a bad league to play in to gain first team experience.

Not what he told the supporters at the back end of last year, enjoyed his time at Widnes.

We were getting told the other week he couldn't get out of Wigan quick enough so which is it? Or just wishful thinking from different sets of fans?

FWIW Ben looked as / if not more gutted then any other player after the NRC Final and has always been one of the first to come over and applaud fans which were hardly the charecteristics of a guy who wanted away!
