I never said you hadn't won more what I meant was until you've won the WCC you'll be behind us in the trophy stakes cos thats the biggy. You can win all the other trophies 50 times each but you'll still be behind us until your WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Oh and while i'm at it:-
1st team to be World Club Champions
Last club team to beat Australia
1st away team to win at HJ stadium
thats something to be proud of!!!!!!

On the matter of our turmoil I (and I'm sure plenty of others who can remember) would rather have had won those cups and had the lean years than just have been also rans in SL for 15 years.

First team to be world club champions???????????????? Didn't wigan beat Manly in 1987? Didn't Sydney St. George beat St.Helens in 1976? I think you'll find that they did pal. And on the turmoil,also rans in SL for 15 years? Well I would rather be an "also ran" and maintain top flight status throughout RL history and be run by a level headed chairman than be a club who has obviously lived vastly beyond it's means in the past and has paid a very heavy price(administration,relegation and many years as "also rans" in national league 1)any day of the week. We will have to agree to disagree here but despite the great team you had in the late 80's and early 90's which later cost your club so dearly you still weren't the dominant force in the uk game.........wigan were. Even in the late 80's and early 90's Warrington, with a team that probably cost a fraction of the widnes team to assemble,still held there own against you. For example I remember us winning two trophies around 89-91(lancs cup and regal trophy)and on both occasions we beat widnes in the semi finals,28-6(lancs cup)and 8-4(regal trophy). Last club team to beat australia maybe,but we beat them just before that and by a bigger margin than you did(15-12 as opposed to your 11-10)and we didn't need a dubious late penalty to do it! I don't know why you mention being the first away team to win at the HJ? Not really that important and something to be proud of is it? I could claim that we confirmed your relegation in 2005 by hammering you 60-16 on your own ground,I could claim that in 1927-8 widnes were on the brink of going bust and warrington donated their own share of the takings from the boxing day and easter derby fixtures to keep your club afloat(source,the history section of your own clubs website)if I thought making tit fot tat petty point scoring claims was worth it,but I don't.

So you have been in the top flight for every season and won 3 titles? Wowwwww!!! The definition of mediocrity.

First OFFICIAL World Champions (& reining European champs) those before were just friendlies

I think Saints should worry, their three closest neighbours are catching them up and two have passed them already. Even as a Leyther I think RL is a stronger sport with Widnes in the top flight. I don't think people (I didn't until I started working there every day) realise how big Widnes is and the untapped market of Runcorn has the potential to make Widnes a massive club.

Very true and I'm hoping that with SL cash are marketing efforts will sky rocket using the top flight status as the pull. Sane with you guys will maybe less Market but for love of the game reading your board or a fee Leythers I know you wont find anyone more RL... Proved by amateur success and SL players from area.

One thing I would disagree with though is that Wire have overtaken Saints! Yes they have two cups to none BUT Saints have made last 2 GF in that time with a high % of local talent wire having one or two and it will bite them back in a few years unless they sort it asap! Remember with Saints we could easily be talking about a side who had won the last 5/6 SL titles! Just fell at final hurdle last few occasions!

As a Saints fan Im extremely optimistic about the next chapter.
We have just moved into brand new training facilities which by all accounts are as good as they get In League. We have finally got rid of the financial millstone that was Knowsley Road. And thanks to McMannus's vision to invest heavily In junior development we are as well placed in that department as anybody.
Yea over the last couple of years McMannus has had to juggle a lot of balls but once we move Into the new stadium I dont think we'll be looking with envious eyes at anyone.

Eh? you hadnt won a championship until 1978 we'd won one THIRTY years before that then we did the double in 1954.

I'll have wigan having a go at our success compared to theirs but not feckin Widnes.
I loved the fact about Widnes being the LAST team to beat the Aussies.... who were the FIRST to beat them on that tour......Wires
First is everything Last is nowhere...or in Widnes if you need directions...
