Widnes shouldn't be too disheartened after that - there were good signs. The most worrying thing, to me, was the 'pass and hope' strategy in the last 20m of the Wakey half. Wakey looked very well organised in that area, by comparison. That'll hopefully change once you get the halves sorted out.

Don't think of it as 'being bottom'.

As our then coach Darren Abram put it (during our sojourn in Sooper Dooper League)......"We are the 12th best rugby league team in the country"!!!

Although we are gonna miss the guaranteed six points over the coming seasons, best of luck with the new adventure - and well done on the turn-out tonight!!

Welcome back to Superleague!

I really enjoyed the first half of the match tonight, it was very competitive and entertaining. Same for the first 10 of the second too but then Widnes seemed to implode, which they kind of did in the last ten during our friendly at Langtree Park so presumably there is an issue of match fitness there (mental and/or physical) which should get better as the season goes on and all your non-SL players get used to the demands of superleague. The discipline needs sorting though. Can't be giving away that much ball or that number of penalties and hope to win a match at this level. I also think you really missed Watts. He looks like a good, creative halfback. It is a real shame he was injured in our friendly as I am sure his presence in the team tonight would have provided Widnes with more tries in the first half when Wakey were under the kosh.

It's a shame the team couldn't pull off a win but this first season is going to be a tough one. Hopefully the fans will adjust their expectations and stick with the team. There was a really good turnout by fans tonight and they were clearly heard, particularly in the first half.

Welcome back Chemics.
Got back very late and have watched the sky plus from earlier. Seemed to be a lot of fight there and I thought you
did really well considering the step up. What I thought was great though was your attendance. I don't know the
exact figure but Barrie said it was over 8k-outstanding. I don't want you to do too well as I have many bad memories
from the end of the eighties and early nighties but it would be great to have the derby again where were on equal terms
at the top of the league.

Widnes were terrible for most of the game. Clarke never a half back in a million years, hanbury poor apart from a decent kick once and looked like a championship side. Wakefield were made to look good cos they were dire for big parts of the game. Long Long season for Widnes nailed on bottom of the league on that showing and their poor recruitment

Great game last night, although I am a Wakey fan, don't be too downbeat, it was your 1st game back in the big league and you have a lot of new faces, stick with the team and the coaches and the good times will come, and that's speaking from experience after following Wakefield for over 30yrs, welcome back to SL and good luck for the season.....
