Yes they're getting the stadium but with a much lower capacity than was planned.
Plus it will be owned by the council so all the revenue they were hoping to pick up from it when it was going to be club owned as gone down the swanny.
John Wilkinson has been told to backtrack on his earlier assertions and hold out an olive branch to Sale Sharks as the council want another set of regular tenants to help pay the cost of the stadium.
They've even downgraded their forecasts for attendances at the new ground in year one from 12,000 to between 6 - 7k the last I read in one of the local rags.
Bailey retired without having to play a game taking a few months salary with him and from what I'm hearing there are one or two other high earner players that have serious injuries are currently playing with all sorts of injections and will be lucky to make it through the season.

this new stadium doesnt help them anyway. the field of dreams 'build it and they will come' angle just doesnt work in the real world. plus as i understand it they wont be playing in it soon enough for it to be considered in this years franchise applications.

I'm not sure about that... it's going up very very quickly to be honest. The progress the builders have made with it in a matter of weeks is considerable and I wouldn't bet on them not having it for the start of 2012.

Back in 2008, one of the reasons our application was rejected, was that our new stadium 'hadn't been proven'. (it was 95% complete at the time) The RFL insisted on visiting Hilton Park (which was being pulled down) to inspect our stadium, for our application! They were refused access - presumably as it wouldn't have been too safe to inspect a ground, while it was being demolished around them - and made a big issue of that when evaluating our application.

Of course, the rules have probably been changed now and the prettier the architect's plans, the more points you score!

Widnes will build for a good 3 years in SL and will soon average 8k per game. They deserve to be back in SL and good on them.

Us Leythers can only wish to join them in 2015.

Now, The challenge cup will really see how good the Championship sides are. Catalans beat Warrington last week, and we face them in 4 weeks time. Leigh will fly the flag for the Championship. If we can get within 16 points, it will hopefully prove some doubters wrong as there has been some really lob sided scores in SL this year.

If Leigh were drawn against Harlequins or Crusaders, a shock would be on the cards !

Chin up Vikins fans. As the season goes on, I can see the current side getting stronger. Top 6 easily !

Widnes never even averaged 8000 when you had the best team in RL, with Offiah, Davies, Devereaux etc.
You may have £1.6m to spend but who will you get thats available, look at castleford , it has taken them 3 years, and only because of the fantastic academy set up. You should be playing academy players in that level of rugby. All I can say is your youth policy isnt working.

I have been down with the performances lately, but i feel we can turn the corner if we can improve the attitudes and commitment.We matched Leigh for the first half in both games, we just need to improve fitness,composure, and play players in their postions.We are only 2 months in the league season with 5 months to go and anything can happen.Anyway lets get behind the team whoever plays.
