For "smelly hole of a town" why don't you take in the air around you? The landfill, the soap factory and the sewage plant alone, all of which line the banks of the river mersey smell far worse.. Warrington is hardly a town which smells of sweet mountain air and roses.

The only time Warrington doesn't smell of the soap factory is when the winds blowing from the south-west....hence the saying.... 'it smells like Widnes today.'

As a lifelong native of Penketh and Sankey I can safely say that it does have it's own unique cacophony of whiffs....

it doesn't face west though its much more north west I think. So its actually looking at st Helens
