I know our season has been poor, and if we do make the playoffs our highest postion will be 5th.That is if we win most of our games.If we do poor the worst will be 8th postion.Players are fighting for contracts and not just at Widnes,but to prove to other clubs they are worth a shot.So lets get a view what people think?

Just so you know Penky and Gleeson are half way through a two year contract...

It's a waste of time mate, it changes on a weekly basis. If you'd have done this thread 2 weeks ago you wouldn't have even mentioned Danny Craven. 2 good games and he's our star full back next year!

Gannon and Smith are out of contract this year, I'd certainly keep Smith, Gannon will probably retire (and what a fantastic player he's been for us).

Team will change I'm sure but the basis of the squad - Thacks, Flynn and the young lads coming through will hopefully stay there.

I think we have to see how the players perform from now till the end of the season.I have put Grant Gore and Alex Gerrard from the U18s.Anyway players from reserves and 18s can prove a point from now till the end of the season.

Agree it's a little pointless discussing this now, one name that has escaped mention is Craig Calvert, with a good club and a good centre he would be a great signing. I would also target Stefan Marsh on a permanent contract with the carrot of Super League.

Sign up 8O% of the Halifax squad and you'll finish no lower than 3rd. Mind, you won't do anything in the Northern Rail Cup.

Are we going to mould Craven into a FB then?

I doubt there'll be much sentiment at the club.

Allen, Gerrard, Flynn, Thackeray, Haggerty (x2 perhaps), Doran and Pickersgill are, imo and from the top of my head, our SL calibre players. Then the likes of Craven, Hulme, Kelly etc etc and even Grady are still coming through. We should be building a SL squad a year early.

Don't know but when you look at some top class 6's who have done well in their careers (mainly Aussies) they all seem to have started off somewhere like 1 or in centres... Lockyer, Fittler also Jules O'Neil!

It's seems to be a learning curve for them as they get used to running lines of players and defence patterns etc etc, whilst also keeping them out the way of big bruisers in defence, then a few years down the line you end up with a top quality 6 on your hands who knows the game like the back of his hand!
