It's a three horse race. In lane one - Barrow. Lane two - Halifax. Lane three - Widnes.
".....and they're off!!! .........
Barrow trots out and is immediately shot by the stewards - trainer Des Johnston is fuming. Halifax in lane two off to a slow gallop - it's going to be hard for that horse with Nigel Wood riding it. In lane three Widnes are steaming ahead - ridden by professional knob-jockey little Dickie Lewis. .....we're at the 2m and 4 furlong mark and Halifax has thrown it's Jockey. They'll be using the hole left by that landing as a new water feature for the Grand National - Widnes now 64 lengths ahead approaching the last and the bookies favourite is sure to win ........at the finish line now and Widnes takes it, followed by a riderless Halifax. Barrow taken to the abbatoir to make Super League Pies. Terrific race and the knob-jockey Lewis leaps from his saddle into the arms of owner Steve O'Connor in the winners enclosure".
