Dual Reg : Tue Mar 08, 2011 12:48 pm
Im led to believe Betts is interested in taking a couple of dual reg loans from us. So I was just wondering what type of positions are you short on? Theres a few in our u20s who I can think of that are too good for the reserves league. We obviously have the youngest Tomkins, Logan who plays hooker, Ben Davies (prop) Jonny Walker (Second Row) Matty Russell (fullback) Sam Powell (Scrum Half) Dom Crosby (prop) Ryan King (wing) any of these stand out at all? Or has anyone heard anything?

Not really needed IMHO, i would love to have Ben Davies back but we have good options in the front row as it is. Perhaps a good scrum half might be of interest.

This season at this point in time I would have to say thanks but no thanks! That is unless any of them are exceptional talents and might be available to us on a permanent deal next year.

We have genuinely good competition for places and I think the squad we have is really decent. There are a number of players that I think should start getting a good look in and give us the opportunity to look at them. Owens, Gilmore, Gore etc. There's no better time to start introducing these players with sufficient cover available so that they don't 'need' to play every game.
Part of me thinks that Myler jumped when he did because he was often overlooked when we had a perfect opportunity to give him game time.

If we start to get anywhere near the level of injuries we had last year then it's worth a look but at the moment we seem to be going okay.

I'm not saying this because I am against the DR system either! I actually think it could work for clubs that actually need it rather than the richer clubs in this division.

Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.”

There's a Wooly over there, baggy kecks and feathered hair

Re: Dual Reg : Tue Mar 08, 2011 3:04 pm
I think, unless we have another injury crisis like last year, we should stay well clear of the Dual-Reg system this season. We don’t really need them at the moment and it would only hinder the progress of our own youth, which we are trying to bring through.

Whilst we got some quality players from Wigan last season, they were all clawed back, which unsettled the team at the important last part of the season. I’m not a fan of Dual-Reg. I think it is a one way street and that it is the thin end of a very big wedge that would see the Championship clubs becoming nothing more than feeder clubs.

It’s a thanks but no thanks from me too.

I'd definately look at taking Logan Tomkins as I think we're thin at 9, though Lunt could play his way into the team from what I've heard. I'd rather see I'anson and Gore fight it out for the number 7 jersey than sign another half-back though.

I can see them saying a few years down the line to teams "you've got a good relationship with club X, formalise it". Feeder clubs by the back door. I don't like the system, it's weighted one way towards the super league club. You get a decent player or two out of it, until key points of the season when they're called up and you're left in the wilderness.

Either you need and rely on them, in which case you run the risk of losing key players at any time, or you don't, in which case why spend extra on players you don't need?

Thanks but no thanks as above. Loans, maybe, if they're needed. More equitable, you know where you stand.

We have Neil Cherryholme and Alan Rudd available for you? Could do the business for you in mid-table? We're always keen to help struggling clubs.

You must realise your forwards are rubbish. Well i prefer Hecky,Scully,Pickers,Haggerty,Varkulis and Ben Kavanagh over any of the Fax props. Gannon is past it now so you can have our reject.
