How about Lunt,Tomkins and Coyle for competition.Just shows Betts has realised Netherton is rubbish.

Sculthorpe's absence wasn't due to an injury ffs. It was a health issue, does everybody just assume and jump on bandwagons these days?

It will be interesting whether Davies stays at Barrow after his initial loan, if he does there's more risk of Crosby getting game time at Wigan, as it seems to be above Davies in the pecking order at the moment.

I wasn't referring to his recent absence, but he has been particularly injury-prone throughout his career. I'd also suggest that he's (understandably) well short of match fitness at the minute so might make sense to play Crosby in the first team and drop Sculthorpe to the reserves while he regains some fitness?

Must be honest though and say what's the point ?

Shoving Dave Houghton to use one example further down the pecking order and his nose further out of joint.

I don't really see the benefit to us as neither are gonna stay on for next year. Rather just run with what we have and use our own kids even if they are behind in terms of development.

Dave Houghton has had plenty of time to nail down a first team jersey for himself but hasn't done it. I agree on Lunt though.

This is not an attempt at trolling and please do not jump down my throat, but you have a lot of good young players. Why do you not use them instead? You know you are assured of Super League. A great deal has been made of your youth set up in terms of you being awarded Super league status. Surely it would be good to give some of them a go. It would be a lot easier to blood them in this than SL. Surely you would enjoy seeing some of your own talents flourish. Oops sorry, just realised that this has been mentioned.

I was surprised by the stat of him having 30 appearances to date.

Ultimately though he has been well and truly frozen out under Betts and I believe only just back training with the firsts. The best player for the reserves so far this year IMO but I know the club dont rate the standard and I think the vast majority of that side are sitting ducks waiting to be released at the end of the year.

I dont think it really matters what our opinions are on Dave, Lunty, Alex Gerrard, Jack Smith etc... The main point for me is that we have harped on about the academies and their success that much during the franchise leadup that it seems a very knee jerk reaction to pick up two dual reggers now after a poor run.

I've seen both the DR's play and they will add something. They arent going to be the difference in winning a grand final this year though so I dont really see what we gain in playing them over any of our own younger players in the long term other than feathering our Wigan cap further.
