yes, Its great to have a win and its nice to see some attacking flair and genuine threat.
but you wont often concede 36 points and win. almost everytime they really threatened our line we just couldnt handle it. so whilst im very pleased, im not getting carried away. we still are on the whole woeful in defence and making some mind boggling decisions in attack.
it was also nice to see some of the young lads mashing it up
my final conclusion, our mate ronnie is a complete berk. he scaled new heights of jizz tonite. fax should have had a sending off and sin binning in the last five minutes. iron clad, definately, without a doubt. incidents he did see but did nothing about except put one on report.
and why constantly tell a team that is clearly offside 2-3 times in every set to get onside, but only pull them up for it every fith or sixth set they do it.
that man upsets me.
but on the whole its nice ot have a win. happy days

Don't forget Widnes got the rub of the green with Laughton as well - one of the linesman disallowed a try in the first half and then in a later one he gave the Widnes player as held up when stood five yards away, only then to change his mind and award the try on the advice of his linesman, stood twenty yards away!

The deliberate holding down of Paddy Flynn was worthy of a ten minute penalty for the offending player, considering what Laughton had given as holding down only a few minutes earlier.
Also... what is the point of shouting at players and pointing when they are offside if you are going to penalise the other team the minute their players encroach?? Just show some consistency FFS.

I didn't think it was the worst reffing performance I have seen, even by the same man, but he needs to show some consistency in awarding penalties. I think there was only one high tackle awarded all night... and it wasn't for any of the hits Barlow put on our younger players. Amazing

Funny how opinions differ as it was always a regular occurence when I was playing the game for the referee to point out who was offside and to keep out of that play and it certainly still happens when having to give 10 metres when chasing a kick etc. Definitely helps the flow of the game as well or it would turn in to RU with the amount of penalties given (Ropati was offside three quarters of the time but that's possibly because he's a lazy sod!)

Matt I think Ropati is rubbish and anyway you joining the widnes stronghold as I am sure you will visit next year.

Thought Laughton was his usual pants self last night. I was going to see if i could get him a neck brace because he had obviously hurt his neck because he was unable to turn it to check for offsides instead just point his finger and waving his arm without looking. The penalty he gave on half time was a joke as well. I had seen Gannon and Aizue a tackle or so before speed out of the line looking to put a hit on so i was watching them. When he blew the penalty against them they both set off in line with him when the ball was played and neither was offside. In the second half we kick a 40/20 which i think one of out players collected in touch. The linesman 5 yards away awards us the srum and good old Ronnie 40 yeards away over rules him. Im not sure he is biased he is just a terrible ref and i mean terrible. The offsides were a joke for both teams numerous times in line with the play you could see someone be up to 5 yards in front and no action was taken. Another one i forgot was where he didnt award us 6 more tackles after a clear knock on by a Widnes player in the second half. Hes just awful for both sides.

That was right in front of me, and to be fair it was the correct decision as the ball hadn't hit the ground outside of the field of play and as such it was only considered dead once White had collected the ball outside of the touchline and put his foot on the ground. Easier in hindsight but he should have just left it for the Widnes player.

And me too... I was an eager little so and so and was often shouted at for rushing out the line and being offside.. I'[m not pretending it doesn't go on at this level too..
But more so these days if a player or group of players encroach the ptb and are offside then the referee will give the penalty. I was just after some sonsistency as it seemed more often than not he was willing to give the pen against us.
