I have nothing but respect for the man. He took a very dignified and positive approach to getting us to SL 3 years ago and he certainly hasn't failed. Shame the same couldn;t be said about the Leigh chairman 3 years ago or the Halifax one today, what happens will happen and nothing can change that. As for the Crusaders announcement, i feel sorry for their fans however it was the right decision in the end and unfortunately, it was an experiment which didn't work this time around.
Good to see Crusaders coming out knowing that if they went into to SL they wouldn't be able to meet their goals/requirements. Alot of clubs go into the franchising system knowing they cannot meet certain criterias and the Crusaderss Chief executive said it would be 3 years of hope more than anything else. I hope they don't fold and build on from here.
There's no chance that what either the Leigh representative or the Halifax Chairman have said will get the RFL to change their mind and there is also an element of it looking unprofessional in some people's eyes. However in the heat of the moment neither of these gentlemen have said anything different than any of us have.
The fact that they are representing the club means that they are open to criticism but the Leigh guy has been proven correct in what he said and I have no argument with how Michael Steele feels.
Licencing is already a controversial point which takes away what most of us feel is a right to earn a place in SL by being the best in the division at the sport that we play. However the decisions made in each of the last two rounds do nothing to help the cause of licencing.
This system is shrouded in mystery with no-one understanding the mechanics or even the criteria on which the decisions are based.
The RFL have shown that a failed Super League club with a history of recent broken promises are more worthy than an aspiring Championship club.
