Just on this crowd thing. I think we would be foolish to underestimate the work that the club will be doing to increase crowd numbers.
The last time in SL the main beef on the TIW site (or Widnes Vikings MB as it was back then) was that the advertising of the games was poor. We had a bit of a spot in the local papers and that was it. One year someone came up with the innovative idea of putting the fixtures on the back of beer mats and giving these to all local pubs (and that season did see an increase if memory serves me right not sure if it was coincidental) but other than that it was fairly poor with the exception of one or two free for kids games.
The very first meeting SOC had with us fans he went to great length to tell us that they were looking at increasing crowd numbers and would be looking to tap into South Merseyside (speke, hale etc) and Cheshire as a way of drumming up the numbers.
They had already done a little work on the demographic of fans and had found a surprising number of supporters attending from outside the town. He said that the club would be taking a good luck at marketing the club and were in conversation with
Warrington about how they had so successfully sold the brand to people in the town.
Then after all of that he said that they would only look to do this once the club was back in SL as that was the product that they would be able to sell more easily. Who knows what is planned? Adverts on the side of busses? Full page adverts in the papers?
The biggest mistake you make with a man like SOC is to underestimate them.
