A neutral's point of view : Thu Apr 05, 2012 10:17 pm
After watching tonight's derby between yourselves and Warrington I thought I would offer my two cents worth. I have always took an interest in Widnes as a club since they produced my rugby league idol and for me, the finest British stand off ever to play the game (top marks for guessing whom).

From an attacking perspective, Widnes showed they have the quality to score points, as they have done against the likes of Wigan and London already. Scott Moore was causing problems off the back of a quick play the ball and they have the nous to finish chances.

From a defensive point of view however, things are a little different. The main downfall seems to be the control of the ruck area and the work from markers, a dummy half jumping freely with 2 or 3 runners off him will always cause an issue and that seems to be the root cause of Widnes' problems in defence. For me, the Widnes squad is not filled with poor or naive players and I think the coaching staff have to be held accountable for certain aspects of the disorganisation of the defensive structure in that sense.

With that said, Widnes have shown enough to make me believe they can acquire 5 or 6 wins this year, Bradford at home on Monday could be one of those if they go in with the same attitude they showed in the first 40 minutes tonight.

Many opposing supporters will cast you off as whipping boys this year, the more honest and intelligent among them will see you as a developing side on a learning curve, the more moronic will use it as a distraction from their own insecurities or a comeuppance for the pain you have inflicted on them in your glory days...

For me, you have a sound financial backing, a club steeped in history and a fan base which will only grow with your development into today's top tier of Rugby League.

All the best, and if there is another Tony Myler lurking in that industrial town of yours please do your best to ensure that we all get to marvel at that form of genius once more.

That is a Top Post mate and agree alot with what you say and hopefully improve gradually. Some players are not good enough like Haggerty,Leuluai,Pickersgill, and Cross in my opinion. We need to add about 4 or 5 players of quality next year, and hopefully Watts will be fit next season as could be a gem.Defence, dropped ball, silly play the balls, and penalties need to cut out.We also need some more bigger punch upfront to get the yards up field, and a better kicking game will help.

I am also of the belief that Dave Allen may be one of the most under rated players in Super League, absolute quality back rower.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

Isa isn't good enough either, never seems to add anything (except when he's 3rd or 4th man into the tackle), His defending is very poor.

It's been fun.

Re: A neutral's point of view : Fri Apr 06, 2012 8:17 am
Widnes were always going to be on the end of batterings this season, we'd all seen it coming and only the most optimistic would have thought different.

With Widnes in a position they are to spend to cap, i would imagine the next few years will see Widnes competing for a regular playoff spot.

Oh and did O'C pledge 10k to Childs too ;-)

Got to admit Dave Allen I was unsure of last season, but this season with fulltime training has been one of our best players.Live Wire Isa is a poor centre, but decent enough on the wing.Isa defence is terrible but attacking can be awesome at times.
