The Coach : Mon May 04, 2009 1:01 am
Special thanks must go to Mr Miller for NOT even having the decency to applaud our 20-30 fans who had travelled up to Gateshead on Bank Holiday Friday when he walked off right in front of us at the end of the game, without even lifting his head, but saying that how many times has he applauded our fans home and away this season.

I know its nothing to do with the team and he doesn't have too but some acknowledgment does not cost him anything, not like the fans fuel and entry costs etc and also time spent travelling to away matches.

But to top off the bank holiday weekend we had a great 2 days in Edinburgh for the magic weekend, great atmosphere and great hospitality.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

Perhaps he was bitterly disappointed and didn't think.
Perhaps he did think and was aware that certain people are calling for his head.

He is not the world's most smiley person at the best of times is he?
I remember congratulating him when he was in charge the first time.....we had just walloped Hunslet at their place in a friendly..about 58-16......I don't think he smiled once.
I wouldn't do it again.
Him and Ellery sitting in the stands used to annoy me.......and he still does.....but that's his choice.
I would not criticise Miller for his coaching.

Look at the stick Noble got recently.....and he turned it around.
If we start witch-hunting at this stage of the season......we are doomed IMHO
We should get behind the coach.

I agree with you about sitting in the stands

I would not criticise Miller for his coaching.

Thats your perogitive, that doesnt mean everyone`s else has to agree.

But i was not witch - hunting as you put it, all the fans were very happy at the end off the game after the second half performance the lads put in, he could have and should have acknowledged the travelling support, that's all i am saying

I think it rankles with some supporters (and quite rightly in my opinion) that having put time, effort and money into making the effort to travel 110 miles (each way) at the beginning of a bank holiday weekend in traffic you would associate with such an afternoon / evening that the Coach can't even acknowledge that we are there. Very poor IMHO.

If it's because (as you suggest) that some people are calling for his head, being ignorant of supporters efforts isn't really going to help.

There now seems to be zero interaction between the Coach and the Clubs loyal fanbase.

Well said.

Just a point! Would anyone congratulate the same people who are calling for your head.

Not a personal dig but I cannot understand people who ask why a coach is up there.

You can see nothing from the sidelines, not a thing as far as what a coach needs to be seeing. If it was such a good view down there then why not scrap stands and just have a rope round the pitch so all the fans can watch from there

Someone has to be up there looking for gaps reoccuring in the opposition defence, looking for players out of position in set moves, players out of position in defence so that these things can be addressed at once by getting a message out.

Like I said, not a personal dig, just a general point cos you hear it more and more from fans of clubs who are struggling. A coach on the side lines is not going to frighten the players into playing any better, his message through the head trainer should do it just as well if he has any respect

I really don't give a sh*t if he stays or goes, if he cant stand criticism then tough sh*t, but us as fans pay his wages, then a simple respect of the fans would be appreciated.

But as i stated not bothered if he stays or goes.

Everybody has there own opinions and comments, and these are mine.

We know why some coaches sit in stands........ so that they can get an overview.
Not all coaches do this......and by no means do coaches that sit in dugouts and get their message to the players personally coach sh/te sides.
Look at Dave Woods who coached Gateshead to the Div 1 title last year ...he was a sideline man....or he certainly was when he came to Donny.

I prefer sideline coach's with track suits on to coaches in stands with dress suits on......it gives a better impression of a team/coach bond....and psychology matters. There can still be a spotter in the stands (an assistant) but the coach should be seen to be hands-on.
Just my opinion of course.
