It’s more plausible this year as there are rumours swirling.
However, I don’t think we can read much into these extensions for young players who were mostly already contracted beyond this year. They’d be affordable even if we were relegated again. And with contracts voided on relegation, neither side has much to lose, although both have more certainty now if we survive in SL. Despite not knowing for sure whether we will, we can’t put everything on hold.
A more telling sign would be if we sign/announce a more high profile player who is already a first team player elsewhere in SL and could conceivably have chosen a team who look safe in the top 8.
It does show the club is thinking about the medium to longer term. Tbf, that hasn’t been much of an issue, it has been a lack of focus on more immediate needs that has tripped us up these last few years. The bigger concern has been/is the board reaching the end of their tether and ‘what then?’ This hints that they’re not intending to depart imminently.
