"Leeds is the greatest club in Rugby League"

I've got Roger's autograph on a picture I cut out of a paper when I was 13 or 14. He was classed as a great player back then in the late 70's/early 80's, and he is still classed as a great player now by anyone who was lucky enough to see him. Regards from Leeds.

I don't think any player would take offence, it's more that it's subconsciously saying to any young stand off at KR that he'll never be as good as Roger Millward. I like that the shirt gets passed on to a new incumbent, who goes on to continue, and hopefully make, history at the club. It should be worn as a badge of honour and inspire the next player to wear the shirt instead in my opinion.

As I said it's a nice gesture, it's just a personal preference of mine that I don't like the retiring the jersey thing.

If Rugby League Rocks, then Hull KR is its Soul.

By way of reminder to those who haven't seen it. Sky Sports 1 are showing a rerun at 10.00 pm of the episode of Rugby League Superstars featuring Roger Millward directly after tonight's CC game live coverage of Batley v Catalans.

Having just watched the Sky Sports feature on the Dodger .......Did anyone notice how his face lit up when he talked about a stand at Craven Park being named after him? ........Retiring the number 6 shirt is a good gesture by the club, but having his name permanently erected above a stand made our little man smile .......Currently we have a joinery company and a firm named Teckno on our East and West stand .......How about permanently putting Roger's full name in the middle of these sponsors that come and go every year or so? .......Judging by his reaction when Carney asked him about Rovers naming a stand after him (The actions of the administration to put sponsors over our legend regarding the naming of stands is deplorable) his face lit up and he seemed as though naming a stand after him made him feel good and happy ........Put his name permanently on either the West or East stand, Rovers! .......Stop thinking of money and do the right thing!

Easy for you to say. Are you going to put your hand in your pocket to make up the thousands of lost revenue every year? We are not talking lost profit here it's a straight choice between sponsorship revenue or additional benefactor contribution.

Neil & Rob will do the right thing for Roger's memory, I have no doubt about that whatsoever.

And just exactly how much revenue will be lost by having Roger's name in the middle of two Teckno advertising boards on the face of the West stand roof as opposed to three? ........A few grand maybe? .......Well, let's hope that a few grand isn't the difference between us being a successful Super League club and us being a Championship club! ......If it is, then I have serious doubts about the business credentials of those who run our club ...... After all, that few grand would be at the expense of commemorating our greatest player.

Three Teckno advertising boards is better than two Teckno advertising boards no matter what the sacrifice is ......Right? ........Is that what you are saying?

Re: Roger Millward R.I.P. : Mon May 09, 2016 6:22 pm
I heard about his sad death last week while on holiday and as a Hull fan I just want to pay tribute. Millward was one of the greatest players to grace our game. Not only a Rovers legend but a Rugby League legend. Also he was one of the few players who would have been known about nationally. I first started watching Rugby in the Mid 70's and he was the player everyone wanted to watch. I remember he once came to do some coaching at my junior school and was amazed how short he was. At the time he was playing for Great Britain in the Ashes series in 1978. He showed us a big mark on his leg and told us he got bitten in one of the test matches. Dirty sods - probably the only way they could stop him!!

RIP Roger the Dodger.

Very emotional today. Thought the whole tribute was beautifully done. Not ashamed to admit I shed a few tears...wasn't the only one either. We'll never see Roger's like again. Sleep well mate.
