Young Uns' moving forward.... : Mon Apr 10, 2017 1:49 pm
Would any of the 'young uns' keep there place after Swinton? If so who would you omit from the team to keep them???

I'd Keep Milton and lose Horne. I'd Keep Oakes and Lose Shaw if Moss is fit. Probably give Clavering a chance instead of Cator and rotate them game on game when we have injuries to forwards.

Thoughts????

Maybe not in the next three games, but surely in your position you should be playing a couple of youngsters either game, there is no way you won't win the league and you would still win nearly all of your games if you did this and it will benefit you in the long term.

The younger fringe first teamers can help with our squad rotation and covering injuries, certainly.

The opportunities should be where there is most need to rest players who are knackered or who are carrying knocks. Lunt and Scruton have played lots of minutes, and it'd be good to see Jubb or Moran on the bench at some point.

I'm nervous about becoming complacent and thinking about the long-term though, when we have such an important short-term job to do. And that'll always be the case at first team level, which should be about results.

I can sort of see the point of starting to look beyond the older players - Horne, Hodgson and Cockayne, but Ryan Shaw is only 24. Fair enough, if you think Oakes is better, but I'd not be sacrificing players who have potentially got another 8 or 10 years in them to 'give youth a chance'.

The aim of any young fringe player should be to fit into a teams set up without disrupting the established "game plan"
It would seem those who played yesterday did exactly that, thus showing Sheens that when called upon they are ready and able.

As for replacing the "older" players already wearing the jersey, you have to be 100% certain that they are going to do a better job over a longer period.

Also does their performance's yesterday justify Sheens wisdom in allowing them to play A team rugby for Saints ?

Surely the most important thing is getting back to SL, be good to have you back, especially if we can get rid of Wakefield!

9 games into his tenure with the only goal being promotion I think things are going well.
He's getting the younger players opportunities even though the current RL set up doesn't provide them easily. They will get chances under Sheens if they are good enough. His track record supports that.

On a different note anyone hear the interview with Gary Hetherington on Humberside yesterday. That guy talks as if he is the RL. He also talks a lot of rubbish.

[color=#000000]I have noticed over the years that he seems to have to much influence on the game. A lot more than one club chairman should have.

He's got the RFL in his pocket, no idea how or why?

If Rugby League Rocks, then Hull KR is its Soul.

Re: Young Uns' moving forward.... : Mon Apr 10, 2017 7:19 pm
Hetherington is an arrogant, old fashioned chairman where his way is the only way. For the modern game, he comes over as retro thinking, parsimonious and lacking vision.

Regarding the younger players.

I would play any of them if they are good enough. Oakes certainly oozes class and skill beyond his years and is ready now for an extended run at the expense of Shaw. Johnson merits being a regular starter and shows a skill set, workrate and aggression I haven't seen thus far from Kavanagh. Take a bow Robbie Mulhern as one of the most improved players of the season. Docker-Clay is an astute signing and with nurturing will be a future star like Heffernan. Abdull is impressive but I'm sick already of seeing his dummies and selfish attempts to take on the line when the pass out wide on the overlap is clearly the best option. I reckon he spurned another half a dozen opportunities yesterday again.

The team has an ideal mix of experience, youth, depth and skill at the moment apart from a real firecracker back rower to replace Horne.

He's a lot like Lindsay was at Wigan from what I have read. We shall see how we move forward, we need KR back in SL
