the league are a f**king joke sometimes ...we've been given hindpool away with only 6 days notice to pull a team together and sort out transport, add to that the fact we played ulverston away last weekend and a lot of the lads had to take time off work in the morning so they could play and this weekend was always down as a free week so most of the team have gone and got tickets for the 4nations final so theres at least 9 missing...looks very unlikely that we're going to have a team this week and we'll have to concede the game which is not what we want to do, we'll just have to see how many turn up for training tomorrow and see what sort of team we can pull together
Naughty that mate, us and irlam have no game this weekend aswell!! If u were gonna play anybody common sense says it should have been one of us, and replace that fixture with ur hindpool away!! That's NWC for u mate!!
well our coach asked the league on monday if there was any chance of changing the fixture to you guys away or irlam at home so at least the lads who work in the morning had chance to play and the lads who've got tickets have plenty of time to get over to leeds after the game, but as per usual we received no response and now a referee has been appointed and looks like we have to trek up to cumbria for the second week in a row or concede the game and face the concequences...also don't understand why the league have put free weeks in the fixture list if a game is going to be given to us, i'm sure every teams the same that most of the team plan something for that weekend only to find out a week before that we have now got a fixture, the league really do need to pull their heads out of the sand and try helping clubs rather than trying to shaft them all the time!!!
I can see why Langworthy are vexed about having to come up here 2 weeks running but what your saying isnt exactly true. This weeks fixtures were given out more than a week in advance and although the fixture list showed a free weekend it was stated on the email showing the cup draws that any team not involved in preliminary rounds of the cup would possibly have a game as this weekend would be used for backlog fixtures. It seemed pretty obvious we would be playing this week as you have already failed the fixture once but we asked not to be given the points as we would rather have the game.

Our coach received the e-mail saturday with the fixture so that is only 6 days to sort it out...but like cowiesarse said the league should have a bit of common sense and swap the fixtures round especially with the 4 nations final kicking off at 6, why give a free weekend for the double header at wembley and not for the final at leeds when its more likely that more people from the north west are likely to travel over to leeds. We knew that we were likely to be given a fixture this weekend but after playing ulverston up there last weekend we though the league would have give us something a bit more local that doesn't require 2 1/2 hours travelling each way, don't forget the cost of a coach is a lot more expensive than normal weekly subs and to expect people to stump up extra money two weeks in a row especially in the middle of a recession is farcical...no wonder so many clubs jumped ship to summer rugby so quickly because the running of NWC is a joke at the best of times.
We've given the game to Walney for very similar reasons.
We entered the Cup in good faith but being drawn against a Cumbrian side again made us decide to give the game, once we knew it would be on the day of the final.
9 of the starting 13 from last week are going the final so are unavailable, if we'd have been at home then they would have all probably played.
Plus the major part is the cost, this would have been our fourth visit to Cumbria and at £400+ per coach is ridiculous for an amateur club to fork out in one season.
Dont blame you for not playing the cup game. We dont usually bother playing if we get an away game its just not worth it for a cup we are not gonna win and which very rarely gets played to a conclusion anyway. Watched Walney last night in the local cup and although they are unbeaten in division 1 there are plenty of teams in this league who could give them a decent game.
Langworthy you got the fixture on Friday the same as everyone else. Its a bit harsh to say the league arent being fair to you as they have already bent the rules once for you and refused to do the same for other teams. I think that with the season being due to finish in Febuary anyway common sense would say teams could have a free week if they give enough notice. We had to go to Higginshaw with 12 players at a wedding knowing they wont come to us next week.
I agree that the league is a bit of a joke, there seems to be no consistency, and communication between clubs and the league is shocking.. We organised a team night out in newcastle a few weekends ago when we had a "free fixture", but we found out that we were to play orrel, we scrapped around for players, and non of the team went to newcastle, only to find out that they had cancelled just before we were due to set off.. yet even with persistent emailing to the Girvin's they have not given us the points AND more frustratingly not replied to our emails.
I personally dont think that the free weekend for the Wembley double header has anything to do with the league organisers, i think the RL lean on the league to not have a fixture just to pack out Wembley, and now they have got enough people interested the RL are assuming that the general public will be enough to fill Headingly, and dont need us RUGBY LEAGUE PLAYERS!!
But, I'm afraid I can't really sympathise with the clubs complaining about having to travel to Cumbria for 2.5 hours... Us and Hindpool have to do it every other weekend... Just get smashed on the bus, get the chants going and give the bus virgins a dirty half yard of, well, anything! You'll soon learn to love it!

We're in the same boat with the Girvins, our coach sent an e-mail sunday trying to get the game switched and didn't get a reply till thursday night which said something along the lines of see what team you can get together and if your struggling then we'll look at giving you another fixture the day before the game ....Don't mind travelling up to cumbria as they are the best away days, my point is that to give just 6 days notice and a week after being up there and it was down as a free week originally...and as for you and hindpool having to do it every other week that is your choice to do it by entering our league rather than staying in the cumbrian league and i'm sure you're bound to have special deals with coach companies that means it doesn't cost anywhere near as much as it costs us who only use them twice a season
That's my point, I'm not complaining, I'm saying that away games are the best craic, which you also said so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make there??! And, wrong assumption, it costs 400-500 quid per bus... Not ideal but these are the sacrifices we have to make!
