Would something like this ever work at Sheffield? : Wed Jun 01, 2011 1:25 pm
Just reading about Widnes' "Viking Stronghold membership" on Code13, just over 3,200 have signed up with 96% of thier season ticket holders with over 1,300 new supporters signing up. Article said many of the new supporters come from outside of the borough's too which is good effort by the club. Members pay £17.99 a month, comes straight from people's bank accounts & entitle members to attend all home games free members shirt, free electronic match day programme & team sheets by text.
Would this ever work at Sheffield or another Championship level club? Obviously membership would have to be a lower price but think it would be a great way for members to feel apart of thier club & help the club know how much income is coming in each month. Apart from the admin side of things of setting up bank accounts, sending bulk texts & emails isn't that hard!
If, for example 800 people joined up at £12 a month then a club would be bringing in just under £10,000 a month. Would people join such a scheme..?
Sorry it's a slow day @ work...
