Atmosphere : Mon Mar 28, 2011 12:34 pm
Being quite a new fan compared to most people on this board i'd just thought i'd ask about atmospehere say 5 or 10 years ago?

What was it like? - Better/Worse than now? More/less songs & chants for now? What was done differently?

I'm just wondering because I know it's hard to generate an atmosphere at somewhere as big as Bramall Lane but Fev and Halifax managed to do it last year and Widnes did it a few weeks ago all with around 500-1000 fans.

They all haves drums, do we need one? Do we need to have everyone who wants to sing & chant to congregate in the same area?

I'm not having a moan (which I tend to do :) ) it's just i've not met many of you and would like to get chanting & don't fancy getting outsung by Halifax on Sunday!

The best atmospheres are at close-ish away games, Batley, Dewsbury, Fev, Hunslet, Halifax all seem to be decent atmospheres generated by us as away supporters, I've followed the Eagles all my life and never known the atmosphere to be brilliant at home to be honest, with the exception of a few big games.

The atmosphere used to be better during the super league days even at DV. we were famous for our Drum - I had never know anyone to have one before then now everyone has one. I can't say I have ever found an atmosphere at Fax, Cas always seemed to be a pressure kettle - a few fans who stirred up trouble. Batley and dewsbury always good and Leeds used to be OK - but I used to like the atmosphere at the reserve games at that little ground down the road (with the flood lit six a side footie pitches) just a nice little crowd with lots of noise.

We won I think, just. Even worse as a ground than Don Valley.

You might make something of the ground but you'd need to rip up the track because the site is bounded tight up to the tram lines.

And then you'd have parking problems. It wouldn't be easy.

The ideal spot to build a new little ground is the Don Valley bowl. Ample parking, near the motorway, right next to the tram and bus routes.

Only problem is that the stormtroopers on the city council would say "theres already a ground two mimnutes away, why do we need another?"

I've been watching them for 23 years, it's fair to say when we were in SL we were better supported, therefor there was more of an atmosphere. It's been suggested so many times we sit together at home, but it's never been done and I doubt will ever happen. We were the first team in SL to have a drum, it was my Dad's idea and Kath who was the designated drummer, recently retired from the Job with limp wrists  I love going to the close away game, the atmosphere is great and that's because we are all together. We've never had any new songs, there's not enough ppl to sing them when you are almost singing them on your own. So unless we did all congregate in the same place, there will never be a really great atmosphere, that said I always enjoy myself  haha.
