Duo doubtful for Eagles
HALF-BACKS Kyle Wood and Simon Brown look set to miss Sheffield Eagles trip to Leigh Centurions at the weekend.
It is a major selection headache for coach Mark Aston with a place in the knockout stages of the Northern Rail Cup just about guaranteed for the winner of Sunday’s game.
“We will go with what we have available on the day.” said Aston. “We’ll have to look and see who’s fit – I’m not sure Simon will be fit. Kyle has a dead leg and we’ve got to check on him.
“The team won’t be too much different from last weekend because we haven’t got many options.”
Wood, on loan from Huddersfield Giants, was injured in the draw with Whitehaven and Brown is struggling to recover from a groin strain.
Hallam student and English Universities international Pat Smith is likely to get the call-up at scrum-half with loose-forward Dane McDonald continuing his stand-in role at stand-off.
Facing them at Leigh on Sunday (kick-off 3pm) could be the experienced pairing of former Kiwi star Robbie Hunter-Paul and Mick Govin.
It is a crucial game for both teams with, at the half-way point in the group stage, Leigh unbeaten and Eagles having recorded a win and a draw from their opening matches.
