Barrow is NOT a dump................... its no worse than many other industrial areas, the folks are far more ameanable than MANY other areas that RL or any other sport is played in and it only takes 2 and half hours to get to from Sheffield.[Unless you go the country route. It can take an hour to cross Sheffield or even get to Leeds, and who in their right mind wants to go to Headingley.
It is easier to get to than Featherstone, which doesn't even have trains running on a Sunday and they play Northern Rail Cup games on Sundays 
If you go to a town next to the sea, you should expect sea-gulls, not like towns which are full of messy pigeons. |

I think ESO's post was very tongue-in-cheek, I for one will miss Barrow, had an enjoyable weekend up there in August with the away tarts. Found the locals to be a friendly bunch-(except the Harry Potter look-a-likes). Though to be fair, the girls in Headingley are lot less scarier!!

Don't feel the need to justify me, some people don't understand the meaning of tongue in cheek!
I was actually referring to the ground rather than the Town, and yes, three sides of it are a dump. Why did they take the roof off one end? |

Had a good chat with a couple of the locals so agree with you on that, apart from the one I mentioned earlier. What's wrong with Headingley? One of my favourite RL grounds and a smashing cricket ground too. Just happens to be in Leeds.
I'd much rather drive to Featherstone than Barrow. It might be "harder to get to" but it saves four hours (two there, two back).
Haven't seen many messy pigeons at Bramall Lane this season. |
