So that's Crookes,Wood and Rowe out for long spells,Can see the season petering out TBH,Just havnt got the squad depth,Hopfully the young lads will come in and give a good account off themselves and gain a bit of experience,As theres no promotion,it doesnt really matter anyway If Hendo got injured we really would be up poo creek without a paddle!!!!Rowe blow for Eagles as forward is out for season
SHEFFIELD Eagles’ forward Alex Rowe has been ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking an arm in the win at Hunslet.
The prop was taken to hospital after going down in a tackle and tests have revealed a fracture to his left forearm.
It’s big setback for the Eagles with the loss of a player who has featured in all their games this season as they head for the Championship play-offs.
“Alex has busted his arm. He was taken straight to hospital and they have confirmed the break – his season’s over,” said coach Mark Aston. “You have to accept injuries but this isn’t the time you want them. It’s a shame for the lad, he’s been good for us this season.”
Former Doncaster forward Rowe has played in all 22 of the Eagles games this season. Used as an ‘impact’ player coming off the bench he has scored seven tries. Rowe’s injury comes as the Eagles made almost certain of a top-six finish with a 32-24 win at bottom club Hunslet Hawks. They need only one point from their last four league games – starting with a trip to Barrow Raiders on Saturday – to guarantee a play-off place.
Aston will turn to some of his young reserves to cover for Rowe with 20-year-old Eddie Battye, likely to head the queue. Battye, from Oxpring, has a combative style and played well in games early in the season.
Aston said: “Eddie could get some more game time. It’s important that we have people who can come in and do a decent job.
“We’re battered up but that’s what happens at this time of the season. It will test the strength in the squad.”
