Here you a little bit of news about the Oxford Cavaliers for you hope you like it.

Oxford Cavaliers U16s Festival

On the 6th of June 1998, the first junior Rugby League tournament in Oxford ended with a superd victory for the host club, Oxford Cavaliers, over a much more experienced Bingly side from west ridings, yorkshire. The Cavaliers, with stand off and skipper Ian Allison and back row Daryl Griffin on top from , overturned a 12-10 Bingly half time lead to triumph 26-12. The King Charles Cup was then handed to Oxford captain Allison, but it was a superd development exercise for southern rugby league, with sides from St.Albans Centurions and North London Scholars also competing.

Bingley from west yorkshire where current West Riding Cup holders, and breezed through their group matches with a 18-6 defeat of the Scholars, and then a 44-6 crushing of St.Alans, with captain Rory Hodgson scoring tow tries and kicking 5 goals, with Martin Sluta also adding two touchdowns. Oxford had a similarly comfortable passage to the final, hammering a valiant St.Albans 38-0 in the opening match, with Ian Allison, Matt Dowdwell and Nathen Aljoe all scoring two tries each. Against North London, the Scholars held them at first but the Cavaliersplayed solid and impressive rugby league and emerged 26-0 victors, with tries from Lee Lewis, Gary Hill, Ian Allison, Jim Smith, Charles and Daryn Gririffin. Both St.Albans and North London shared the development they made during the day in an exciting 3rd place play off. London emerged 38-20 winner.

That left the superd final from wich Oxford emerged victors and left a pleased tournamet oraniser, Cavaliers development executive Daryn Reeds syaing "It was a superd performance from the Oxford side, they showed how well they have developed. Thiswas a great development exercise for southern rugby league and shows how seriously the Cavaliers are trying to give the game soid foundations in Oxfordshire" Bingly coach Peter Roe the former amateur international and former coach of Keithly and Halifax, said "I was very impressed by the standard on show today" he said "This is definitely the way forward." Andy Harland Developmant officer at the time for the Bradford Bull watched the tournament and presented the King Charles Cup to Oxford. He too saw it as a great sign for rugby league and (at the time ) earmarked Oxford back row Darryl Griffin as one player with the potential to make it to the top. (he did not take hem to Bradford).
