Re: Seagulls : Sun Apr 21, 2024 7:37 pm
Firstly though it galls me to say so thought Sheffield played some excellent rugby but Fax were completely dire. Yes we have been incredibly unlucky with injuries, but as has been said the majority of that team on show today will struggle to beat anyone in our league. While I have some sympathy for Finn inheriting this squad - he needs to show some backbone now, and at least bring back Keyes in place of Widdop. Jouffret was one of only 2 or 3 who emerged with any credit, but he needs the support of another half who offers any sort of threat or he is too easily nullified. To keep Widdop on for 80 minutes, and only give Keyes 20 minutes was ridiculous.
I'm away next week, and the way I felt at the end of the game, I'm actually relieved to be missing Swinton. Who incidentally put 50 points on Dewsbury with a certain Tee Ritson playing for them and scoring a couple of trys!

I thought Inman tried. That is the only half good thing I can think of.

Oh and we did bomb a couple chances early on. Oh that's not good is it

Feel for finn come on board think of some form of communication to divert some heat. Preferably from the players who are letting everyone down look in the mirror time for quite a few.

I did not see the game, did not listen to it, and only read what’s on this forum so far. To get billed at home? Completely unacceptable! You can point to the injury list and say Fax are up against it, With all the experience on the field not even a drop goal!
Like others I am not privy to what conversations happen in coach or boardroom, but it seems money has been thrown into the abyss, spending money on players who are not fit and not yet laced a boot in anger and probably is a good earner, a marquee signing who should be able to at least take the team around the park seems to be offering not a lot at present. Like others say this has gone on long enough, Grix was blamed for everything( and his showing this season may have some truth to it), it is said it is not Finn’s team, when I managed a team It was somewhat inherited but you got to deal with the hand you’ve been dealt, if you can’t score then to use a football term park the bus and stop the opposition from scoring, not always pretty and fans will not like it but better than shipping points by the barrow load, build some confidence then maybe go on the counter offensive, Waiting for dry tracks will be too late, Fax will again miss the playoffs and have even less money next time round. Also BoD put your money where you mouth and words were when you took control,
As always if anyone thinks I am wrong bring it on.

Re: Seagulls : Mon Apr 22, 2024 8:37 am
I hate to go over old ground but I still think Grix has a lot to do with the position we are in now and obviously I was highly critical of his work when it come to his signings and who he let go and I do think he missed opportunities to improve the squad. Finn is now left with a lot of dead wood that unfortunatley make up the majority of this current team. Injuries to key players has exposed this even more and we are left with a lot of players who might have been good for us a few years back but they are no longer playing at that level or players who are simply not good enough to play week in week out for a Championship team nevermind one that you would think had playoff aspirations.

The Widdop signing was crazy, he might not be on anywhere near as much as some on Facebook are claiming but I think we could bet that he is on enough that we could have signed at the very least a decent centre or prop with the money if not more. I do think Widdop would have looked good for us playing behind a good pack but the reality is what we are putting out at the moment is one of the weakest packs in the division that gets bullied each week so in that sense its a shame that Widdops career will end at Fax in a relegation battle rather than a lot higher up the table.

AM I RIGHT? I'M NOT WRONG!

Re: Seagulls : Mon Apr 22, 2024 9:29 am
We tried so hard to score but lacked the quality (not the effort). The entire backline line is League 1 standard and we desperately miss Eden and Crookes. And their front row was miles better, again we're missing Calcot/AOB/Douglas. Painful day yesterday.

Re: Seagulls : Mon Apr 22, 2024 12:34 pm
Like Fax in Asia, I dont see the games in person, only the highlights but saltonstall, mcomb & tibbs have to be the weakest back 3 in the division. Salty has been a tremendous player but his game means he's chewed up the miles and just doesn't have the same impact but to think we had worthington & arundel only two seasons ago, the succession planning is woeful. Tibbs is a shell of the player he was a season or so ago. I genuinely thought he has / had all the attributes. McComb is not a centre. However, at the end of the day, there is enough quality in that team to compete and beat Sheffield. What worries me is that such performances emerge during the season or the back end when the table takes shape but to not score a point in a game and a half and concede 86 in the 4th & 5th games of the seasons is an absolute capitulation. The only saving grace is its still the first quarter of the seasons but me thinks that whatever systems Finn is trying to implement are not meshing. I mean, does any see any distinct differences? Same as last year? Worse? Likewise, I think you can expect Eden to be play 10-15 games. I think a few people fell asleep on the fact that he played an average of 16-17 games a season at Castleford in the last six, seven seasons.
