The best way to get rid of this fixture is to boycott it. The sooner the better IMO.

Did you get rid of all the voices in your head? Do you now miss them and the things that they said?

You might have the majority of the same shoite side. We have almost a new team so, no one can predict how we will go. Don't let that stop you though Rolfie.

Totally agree with a lot of poster on this thread. Scrap it! Waste of time. It's not taken seriously by most of the fans or the clubs.
Plus it stops the morons claiming it as a derby victory when they've lost two in the regular season.

It is just a money generator, I don't go to them but if others do in sufficient numbers, it will never be scrapped.

Re: Derby friendly : Sun Oct 19, 2014 11:16 am
Potentially we could meet 7 times in 2015!

A pre-season friendly, 2 regular H&A games, Magic Weekend, a Challenge Cup tie, another league game in the post-split section of the year and then, finally, a seventh game if we were to finish 4th & 5th in the "promotion" league, the so called "million pound game :) ".

We're usually sick of the sight of each other after 3 derbies, imagine how exhausted/disinterested we will all be after that lot. It'll be like our own mini World Series played out over eight interminable months.

We haven't played one another in a Cup tie for years. The law of averages means we must come out the hat together sooner or later. It's bound to be in a season like the one above.

As a side note, game seven could also occur in the play-offs if, and it's a rather large if, both you and ourselves were to finish in the top four next year. However, I suspect that may be stretching credibility beyond its natural breaking point.

Hull Fc v Hull Kr, definately a triumph of quantity over quality.

Greed by both clubs and the RFL has completely killed the Hull rivalry, to the point where there isn't really such a thing these days. You can pull off a four-game minimum with a rivalry like Celtic v Rangers and lose no importance, but in RL you just can't. I used to shake my head at Hull fans who played down the derby games, but now I get it.
If they'd played each other just twice a season (ie no Magic or friendly) all along, perhaps it would still mean something. :(

What's the record for derbies in a season? Must have played a fair few in those seasons in the 70s and 80s when we were regularly meeting in the floodlit, yorkshire cup, john player, and Premiership.

I understand where the Derby fatigue comes from and the hype to sell the friendly game is a bit ott. But as long as it helps to pay the bills, fair enough. Nobody is obliged to go. Like other friendly games, it doesn't 'count' in my head. But as with other pre-season games its interesting to see new signings are going and build up a bit of anticipation - with no stress about the result.

Re: Derby friendly : Sun Oct 19, 2014 4:59 pm
I don't see the big issue really, it's an opportunity for both clubs to get some money in, it's an opportunity to see new faces and team, it's an opportunity to go for a few beers with your mates without a 2 hour coach journey, it's also good preparation for the season as the intensity is an improvement on normal friendlies which should be better preparation. The benefits well override the negatives for me, the novelty of the derby fixtures has worn off regardless as we are used to playing them now year in year out, doesn't mean the rivalry decreases. Friendlies are an evil necessity, so the clubs may as well try and gain some other benefits from them. If not Hull, it may be Huddersfield or Bradford or Leeds that week with less crowds, less money, less intensity and less overall enjoyment and beneficial activity. plus, it's still a lovely feeling when you turn up for work on the Monday ;-). Seriously though, strip it down to it's bare bones and just go and enjoy a game of rugby again after a break of 3/4 months because ultimately that's all it is!
