I'd go Maguire for coach. Incredible how much we improved under him with only one signing (who many thought would be fairly average). No debate regarding Lockers

Same for me. The difference between 2009 and 2010 with effectively the same team was astonishing.

Not having a go here, but why Burgess over Richards?

I love posts like this as it's great to see how differently people see the game.

For me, at his best Burgess has an x-factor about him. He’s a natural RL player. Richards was great for us but for me his strength was in defence and goal kicking.

Most definitely, I agree. I rate Burgess so highly, when he's on top form. His sheer pace creates space for those inside him, as well as being an obvious benefit to any winger. For me now, the worry is, has he lost that pace for good? Or was he just riddled with niggly injuries last year?

Burgess over Richards is lunacy for me. I’ve always felt Burgess had the potential to be one of the best wingers in the world but he’s 23/24 and we’re still looking at him as though he’s a junior who could make a big break. I look at him and think from a natural talent point of view he has more about him than Tommy Makinson but what he doesn’t have what Makinson does is a drive and desire to be the absolute best he can be. Tommy Makinson lives in the here and now, whereas Burgess seems to have his eyes on what may be down the track.

Until he focuses and commits himself to being the best player he can be, he’ll be no more than potential. He’s as frustrating a player as I’ve come across.

I agree and I’d go a little further and say I struggle to see why Charnley isn’t in before him too in some selections. Him and Makinson were very similar players IMO

I had Charnley and Richards as nailed on certs in my team. They both gave top service over a number of seasons during the decade. Charnley drifted for a couple of seasons but before and after that he had a number of terrific seasons. Had Manfredi been fit these past few years he’d have walked a spot but it wasn’t meant to be.

Yeah do it. Is it someone one here who has put the 'memories of rugby league' stuff on? I sit there for hours watching those glorious games. Whoever is in charge of it. Put some more on :o :o :o

I think Bilko's is 'Wigan Rugby League Old Matches' which has some amazing stuff on it.

Hit the nail on the head. If Burgess had kept on progressing then who knows, but he's never hit the same peaks as Richards or Charnley. I can just about understand debate around Charnley v other wingers, but Richards, S.Tomkins and Lockers are all obvious. Even if you opened it out the the whole SL era and all teams those three would still get in IMO.
