Two days, and three start times, separated the round five games in the Betfred Championship.

Batley had the daunting trip to Toulouse to take on the undefeated Olympique XIII side, while Leigh and Featherstone had to defend their one hundred percent records against Swinton and Halifax respectively.

Widnes had a home game against Whitehaven, while the London Broncos went to pointless York looking for another two points in their quest to bounce back into Super League. Dewsbury were at Oldham, while the final game of the round was between the Bradford Bulls and the Sheffield Eagles as both sides looked to improve on their only win of the season.

An early Batley try from Morton caused some concern for Toulouse but it didn’t take them long to find their feet as Hansen equalised seven minutes later. The sides remained locked at 6-6 until just before the half time hooter when a Morton penalty goal gave the visitors a narrow interval lead. The second half was nearly all one-way traffic with Marcon, Robin, Kheirallah and Bell establishing a 28-8 lead before an Everett converted try for the Bulldogs saw then hit double figures. The last points of the game were from Pezet as Toulouse ran out 34-14 winners.

The Leigh Centurions remain second thanks to a 34-20 win over a plucky Halifax side. A try from Hood and a brace from Scott had made it 14-0 in the opening quarter of an hour but Broughton and Barber struck back before the interval to reduce the arrears to 10-14 and give ‘Fax a chance. Higson and Broughton exchanged second half tries for 24-14 before two Reynolds penalties, a Scott try and a Reynolds conversion won the game and established a 34-14 score line. Robinson grabbed a late consolation for Halifax but they were defeated by 20-34.

The third unbeaten side also maintained their record as Featherstone held on against Swinton to secure the win. Cox and Fairclough had given Swinton an early 12-0 lead, but tries from Harrison, Jouffret, and Worthington made it 16-14 at the interval. Worthington picked up three more second half tries and was joined over the whitewash by Blackmore with Chisolm kicking one goal and one drop goal. The only reply for Swinton was two Butt tries as they lost by 24-35.

York remain pointless at the bottom of the table after a narrow home loss to the London Broncos. The Broncos were 18-0 up within the opening quarter thanks to Dixon converting the tries of Curran (2) and Egodo. York fought back before the interval with two Marsh tries but a scoreless second half frustrated the home side as they lost by 12-18.

Home side Oldham hit the front against the Dewsbury Rams thanks to an Ince try converted by Abram but Gabriel levelled the scores before the interval. Second half tries from Scott, Martin and Oakes cruised the Rams to their 24-6 win.

The Widnes Vikings lifted themselves into sixth place with a 40-16 win over Whitehaven. Bulman had given the visitors a lead but Chapelhow levelled the scores. Dixon and Wilde exchanged tries before the interval for a 12-10 half time lead for the Vikings. Whitehaven managed just a solitary second half try from Dixon while the Vikings chimed in through Lyons (2), Cross, Edge and Owens to take a comfortable win.
