| We shall once again be going to South Devon in September. It's great because we're now on "family rates" and last year's 2-week stay cost us all of £200 for Emma, me, the dog and the parrot in a two-bedroomed annexe with all mod-cons, including new-laid, free-range eggs every day.

| Quote CORNISH="CORNISH"As the title says. post details where you re going/want to go and ask for/or give advice on any destinations members may be interested in going.
we are looking at a week in june or july(before the kids break up) in dorset on or near the coast.Chalet or caravan site, no activities required dog friendly/cheap and cheerful.any recommendations please peeps.
TIA.'"
There are several sites around Weymouth that are pretty good we have used Haven in the past and if tou look through the horror stories they are pretty good, we've not hand any disasters, avoid Rockley Park Poole though as it is in the middle of nowhere and next to an RAF base..
Make sure you visit Dorchester market, a real old fashioned market with lots of good food, household stuff and clothes.
Monkey World isn't far away and it's a decent day out, even better value if you use Tesco vouchers.
We're off to Cornwall again this year, either Perranporth or St Ives.

The "Islanders" are a strange breed, that's for sure, for many it's a "family" thing.

| Can anyone recommend some tips for saving cash when booking as a single parent? Took my lad to Haven near Pwhelli last summer and we both really enjoyed it, albeit with bobbins weather, but he's now at school and obviously the price has rocketed for the same sort of stuff. Had a look at going abroad but can't seem to find owt for less than £800 for 7 nights as everywhere wants me to pay adult price for the lad.
And, no, "get a bird" isn't a satisfactory answer to my initial question.

How are you fixed for transport ?
If you have your own car and there's just the two of you then how about trawling the likes of Travel Lodge / Premier/ Holiday Inn Express - register with Travel Lodge and they'll email you when they post special offers to their web site, my brother took his wife and two lads on a tour of the north east and scotland using £19 per room (family room sleeping four) offers the year before last - you'll won't necessarily be in seaside towns or even in the centre of towns but with transport and a bit of planning you can make of it what you will.

| Me and a mate are thinking of going to Iraqi Kurdistan for a week in June but no there are no flights direct from the UK. The cheapest airline is Austrian Airways and that involves flying to Vienna and getting a connecting flight. We have two flight options, one takes about 7 hours including an hour stop in Vienna, the other takes about 17 hours including an 11 hour stop in Vienna. Obviously we don't really want to hang around Vienna airport for 11 hours but is an hour enough time to guarantee that we catch our connecting flight?
Also would you rather stay at quite a nice hotel that's a half an hour walk from the city centre (remembering that it gets up to 40°C in June) or would it be better to stay at a not so nice hotel that's bang in the city centre?

Yeah I can drive so that's not really a problem. Only problem with using the basic hotels is that he quite enjoyed the evening entertainment etc of the holiday camps. I quite often use Travelodge's, but that's generally going to football and/or being on the lash so not entirely suitable in this scenario
