Doesn't the monarch still have some power via the Privy Council?

If so, it will be incredibly limited and extremely unlikely to be used.
I seem to remember we have a tradition of burning witches and selling "coloured" people into slavery, maybe kirkstller thinks changing that wasn't a good idea either?

I thought the Privy Council was effectively controlled by the Cabinet, but I could be wrong.

| More than just the privy council. It seems they reserve the right to be [url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/aug/31/secret-royal-veto-powers-exposed?INTCMP=SRCHconsulted over new laws[/url to make sure they don't have to suffer like the plebs do.
Democracy, eh?

| Every bill that passes throuh Parliament (the Commons and the Lords), then gets passed to the monarch for his or her royal assent before it is formally encated into law.
This is part of our unwritten constitution and in practice the monarch would not refuse royal assent becaue the bill had passed through the democratically elected chambers and the theory is that if royal assent were every refused there would be a huge constitutional crisis, uprisings etc and probably the end of the monarchy. Hence why royal assent would not be refused. The last time was 1707.

| has anyone said "political correctness gone mad" yet?
btw, I'm sure I read when I was doing a political science degree way back when that what is required to declare a state of emergency, impose martial law, suspend habeus corpus, dissolve or suspend parliament(s) and the rest of our unwritten 'constitution' is the signature of the monarch, backed by three privy councillors. The PC includes all current cabinet members, all previous cabinet members, ever, who are still alive plus a few odds and sods who've never been in a cabinet. I could be wrong though.

| Quote El Barbudo="El Barbudo"Ditching primogeniture but keeping the monarchy is like painting a crumbling wall in a nice modern colour.
It gives royal women a shot at the top job but changes absolutely nothing for the other 46 million of us who are supposedly the electorate but who are denied a democratic choice.
Yeah, how very up to date that is.
Whoop-de-doo.'"
We have got the monarchy just were we want them.
Puppets ... lavishly paid puppets granted ... but puppets nevertheless.
It must be terrible living in that goldfish bowl opulence.
I'd give it a go mind, especially with Kate.

Never say never. She may end up like the former Princess of Hearts, embroiled in a bitter menage de trois then think fook it, from now on I'm going to be a raging cock monster.
