| I think it's disgusting they want to put the lowest paid workers up to £11,000 per annum.
I've managed quite comfortably on last years £3,500 jobseekers allowance.
I mean, really, what will they spend all their extra on?

Are there any elections coming up?

| Quote BobbyD="BobbyD"Excellent, so the reason that people are earning below living wage and therefore struggling to make ends meet is down to the Labour party. That's up there with the abolition of the 10p tax rate. Vote Labour, screw the poor.'"
You obviously have trouble with English. In particular just what the word "minimum" means. I'll give you a clue. The word minimum in this context means the least allowable wage. It doesn't set a limit or a maximum.
Hence your comment above is pretty moronic and not anywhere near as clever as you thought it was when you posted it.

That wasn't a clue, that was the actual definition. Not just me with the problem with English it seems.
Not another Labour voter who hopes people don't remember how he/she voted to screw the poor are you?
Stiil, keep bleating about the hypocrite Osborne.

I am surprise you still want to keep digging.
The point you made was and is moronic.
Setting a minimum wage does not impose a maximum on anyone. Setting up a commission to advise what that minimum level should be, to take it out of politicians hands, is not as you said "the reason that people are earning below living wage".
You thought you were being clever but were in fact being rather stupid.

I believe most of your neighbours survive on root vegetables, and supplement their diet with a day out in the fields with their ferrets.
£3.5K sounds a tad generous.

I think it's disgusting that you are wasting your time on these boards at the taxpayers expense, when you should be actively seeking employment.
And don't give me any of that malarkey about looking and applying for jobs on line as the reason you are joined at the hip to your internet enabled device.

I you not.
Just been down my mates allotment and got given sprouts, cabbage (ajw variety) parsnips and a swede.
Also spuds and onions that he had stored from earlier this year at home.
Slow cooker, beef casserole looks the way forward.

How many people are only getting £70 a week? I would assume your council tax will also be covered through benefits?

Many who are singularly unemployed I would imagine.
Council tax wasn't paid if unemployed but as of last year a percentage has now to be found.
Think it's 25% of the annual bill.

And underemployment?
All those having to use foodbanks or rely on Red Cross parcels?
Is austerity working for them.
Have you got anything to contribute other than soundbites and a habit of running away whenever you're asked a direct question?
Come to think of it, have you yet answered Sheldon's remarkably simply one about what you do for a living?
Never mind his slightly more complex and philosophical one – well, for a limited intellect – of what value you place on human life?
Or will you just run away. Again.
Like a little troll with nary an idea of their own.

Definitely more jobs - one company a supplier to Asda has increased turnover from 1bn to 3bn in the last 4 years and are expecting similar growth over the next three years. Another is a food manufacturer MBO linked to Booth's - both offered through connections in each firm.
Work is out there I myself am looking for someone - I am going to offer today to someone who came through this very forum. There is definitely more activity in the job market at all levels IMO. This is in the grimey north!!

| Well today Carney has confirmed we have underemployment:
[url=http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/jan/24/uk-economy-escape-velocity-mark-carney-interest-rates?commentpage=1UK economy well short of escape velocity, Mark Carney tells Davos[/url
And before anyone says "It's link from the Guardian, si it is biased" his [uquote[/us are being reported in the same vein elsewhere.
He is not going to raise interest rates because:
"Crucially, unemployment remains above the level that is likely to be consistent with maintaining inflation at the target in the medium term. It is not just that nearly three quarters of a million more people are out of work than before the crisis; [uanother three quarters of a million more people are involuntarily working part time[/u."
The following comments are also interesting in the context of this thread:
"A few quarters of above-trend growth driven by household spending represent a good start, but they aren't sufficient", Carney said as he discussed the prospects for permanent exit from the deepest recession of the post-war era.
"It will take sustained growth, more balanced demand and a recovery in the supply side for advanced economies to break free into a more normal universe."
Seems to me these comments vindicate the position of many of us on here that the recovery is not a balanced one and that falls in the headline figure of unemployment mask the problem of underemployment.
Any of the right wing element going to disagree with Mark Carney's opinion?

| He's doing one of two things...
1. He's got his head screwed on properly and sees exactly what is going on and knows a false dawn when he sees one in which case you have to have confidence in him.
2. He's buying another twelve months low interest rates for Gideon.
