I have a sort of soft spot for Williams. He doesn't really seem to have been a tub thumper or one for going around claiming that all Christians are being discriminated against by militant secularists etc.



I suspect that, if all believers were more like Williams, there'd be a lot less of this so-called 'militant secularism'.



In strictly CofE terms, he's actually managed an extraordinary thing in keeping the global Anglican communion together inthe face of such massive division.

I think he has proven extremely weak and is partly / largely responsible for division due to his lack of clarity.

Much fun to be had yesterday watching "The Big Questions" on BBC1 - the liberal and raving loony wings of the Anglican church sat tearing strips off each other while a smug Catholic sat in the front row grinning himself to death.





It all comes down to how you interpret the Bible, and whether you believe it to be the word of God or not apparently. Given the New Testament was written about 400 years after the fact it's pretty funny to see those who are prepared to treat it as a contemporaneous record of events defending their position.

I have yet to read anything about his church castrating young boys either to 'help' them against homosexuality or as a punishment for speaking out about abusive priests, as per the stories now coming out of the Netherlands, which also include the revelation that a former Dutch PM knew what his church was doing and help keep it secret.
