It depends on if you spend more money on lets say a super league who is past his best and coming for the wrong reasons. Or a hungry unproven player playing in league 1 he may be cheaper contract wise but you will get more value playing wise.

I know there is more money allegedly in union, have any union players been looked at , either locally or lower level union sides. I understand there seems to be more league going the other way, There has to be untapped talent their amateur game too, I am sure this has been looked into, hasn’t ‘t it?

If you watch NRL what stands out a mile is the amount of South Pacific Islanders playing, they are absolute machines with not a little skill. I know this incurs extra costs but it seems to me to be a gold mine waiting to be Tapped!

The minimum wage for an NRL player (one of the squad of 30) is set at roughly £55,000. With a few players on a reported £700,000 (both excluding certain allowances and bonuses). Their second tier system reportedly pays around £40,000 to players "destined for NRL' and a lot less for those past their prime and still playing. Junior players can be on basics of £25000. In a lot of cases there are also "linked" jobs.



It means that for a young islander (or even an Australian) the move to the UK not only produces a significant cultural upheaval but also a potentially lower wage, unless they are going straight into SL.



As a consequence we tend to only appeal to players who

- have failed to make it into 2nd tier and still want a bash (often end up in the Championship)

- those that had a go and failed (nearly always end up in championship)

- some who never tried but simply ended up in England!!

- NRL players towards the end of the careers and offered lower local contacts than SL will offer

- NRL players who have "problems". These can be of all types but often tend to be player who think they are worth more than they are offered in NRL or those with discipline/criminal issues.

- Marquee players where our salary cap allows flexibility



Appreciate that some will not fit this list, but shows why it can be very hard now to get them.

Wakefield have confirmed Wood is leaving - consensus on their forum os that he's coming to Fax. I think he'd be an excellent signing, when I've seen him play reminds me a bit of Ben Kaye with his enthusiasm - but also with some pace - sadly in my opinion the only quality Kaye really lacked.

You've done well there. Woody is only leaving because the cut in SKY money means we can't afford to extend his contract, so in other words, we thought he had a year of SL left in him. Should tear it up for you and he's a bubbly character as well.

No surprise just seen that liam harris and curtis davies have left the club. I wonder if Connor robinson will be joining them he is contracted for next season but with the expected new arrivals in the halves he will be way down the pecking order. Maybe he could be third choice hooker personaly i think he will leave but we will have to wait and see. Just a rumor i have been told is that we might be getting Oliver roberts on loan from huddersfield for next season i don't know if anyone else as heard anything.

Can't say Im disappointed about any of the departures so far, we look to be having a good clear out of fringe players or in the case of Robinson and Harris are simply getting rid because we have much better coming in.

Not heard anything about Ollie Roberts but I for one would be well pleased if we could get him onboard especially for a full season.

Played for us on loan from Giants for a couple of games and looked good before Salford came in and took him.

Roberts would be a brilliant signing aslong as its a season long loan with no recall as they did with Hewit

Disappointing that we've re-signed all 9 front line forwards from last season.While it's difficult to be over critical of any individual,collectively there were poor and way off what's needed.and not sure how much scope that leaves us for badly needed re-inforcements.Three should have gone IMO.

I am with you on this one just out of interest who would you of let go. we have not replaced springer and released jones and Connor davies who was used through the middle and we never replaced Brierley either. There is a rumour that morris even thou he is on the list for next season could be going to york but we will have to wait and see on that one. When you look at the middles that have been released by super league clubs there is not much to gone on we will probably have to look at the championship for players in that position or league 1. Other then that we might go for loans from super league but they can always be recalled.

I’d rather wait till all the signings are complete till I passed judgment, it was quite obvious a lot of players were carrying injuries especially at the back end of the season .

Now they are all retained they have a clean slate and my full backing,so not naming.Suffice to say that we keep players consistantly whose level of performance dips year on year,but if the coach feels they are the best options available...

When you look at our forwards difficult to be too critical of any one individual - they all consistently play to their strengths - they are generally strong defensively and rarely make mistakes - qualities which Grix obviously, and understandably values. The problem for me is that they are all too alike so that especially when you look at our bench we rarely have a forward who offers something different that might change a game, but just a fresher version of the player coming off. Tangata in his pomp used to offer this but less so now - don't know enough about Matty Gee if he's actually coming to know whether he's the answer - the rumours about the quality of the backs coming in aee very promising - really hope that even if smaller numbers the forward additions are the same quality.
