. Particularly it's obviously not Murphy's fault that Edgell didn't even bother to attempt to contest the ball, nor is that something he can predict when he jumps. If Edgell leaves the ground at all, then the head contact can't possibly happen. What's even more ridiculous is that had he caught the ball, he'd probably have been AWARDED the penalty for being tackled in the air. Think the ruling was positively stupid. A contest in the air will always have elements of risk, and if these things are going to be called then you may as well just ban jumping for the ball. To me, this is in line with the Nu Brown red card incident last year. Yes, there is contact with the head but it's pretty clear it's nobody's fault and doesn't need punishment as it's a "rugby league incident" ie something that can just happen by playing the sport. You’re not Jon Wilkin are you ? I’ve never heard such a disrespectful and ludicrous comment come from a pundit that Wilkin spouted on Saturday. The reason why Edgell wasn’t able to jump for the ball was because he was felled by a player that had jumped at him and kneed him in the head. Edgell was in the process of beginning his jump at the correct time to receive the ball when he was impacted by Murphy who had jumped far too early and ended up way in front of the ball and into his opponent. Watch it back, Edgell is about to jump when he is felled by a reckless Murphy. For Wilkin to say it was a pathetic attempt is probably the daftest thing he will ever say. He needed correcting by JJB who totally bottled it. It’s a good job Keith Senior wasn’t alongside him doing the punditry because Wilkin would have ended up on his arris again. Barrie McDermott was nearly as bad as Wilkin with his summation of the incident, but I’ve got used to that idiot and the rubbish he spouts.

I don't actually believe murphy was watching the ball or jumped for the ball. He jumped beyond the ball which h missed and landed behind him. He jumped to put the catcher off. Edgell was in position and about to jump by the looks of his stance. If he' have jumped earlier he would have been coming down before catching the ball which came down noticably after Murphy had made contact with Edgell.
