Maybe it's just me but I find Richardson a really irritating player to watch.

The magic sponge has worked wonders for Danny Richardson's recovery, as he has recovered sufficiently from his whiplash injuries (sustained in Cameron's brutal challenge) and is named in Castleford's squad for this weeks game.

Thought that was just me. The younger version of Sam Tompkins likewise, now I am Tompkins biggest fan, best commentator/pundit on tv. Funny old world.

On a wider point, when did it become a thing for players to fling their arms in the air looking for a penalty at every ptb? Noticed it this season, but maybe they've always done it?

It has been going on quite a while and it is totaly infuriating. I wish the referee's would say "I'm reffing this game, not you" & give a penalty against for discent. Would ruin the game for a while until the perps learned but they would eventually.

And the same for falling over / diving when they get a nudge off the ball or at PTB area, penalise for play acting and turning the game & players into footballers.

Pretty much agree though I'd leave decisions on diving to to the panel. The refs get enough grief without having to adjudicate on dives that half the crowd are calling out as serious foul play, having been taken in.

Infuriating it is. Agree that a penalty would quickly sort it out. That, or a quick blast of the Macarena from the pa system.

It happens in the NRL too.

And probably started in Football.

Leeds players do this quite a bit, especially at the ruck. If they penalised for this it would stop it.



As a sport RL needs to differentiate itself, and as hard as it sometimes is, respect for the officials is part of that.

Agree. Players from all teams are at it. While ever there's a glimmer that the referee might actually give something, though, it'll continue. Agree with previous comments that a penalty against would bring it to a halt almost immediately.

Consistency during a game from the same ref is certainly an issue, never mind between different referees.

The head contact rule is so inconsistently reffed it drives me crazy.

I now genuinely don't know what constitutes a penalty, never mind yellow/red.

It's an obvious fix. Any potential head injury should result in a HIA assessment.

It already does.

What Burgess is proposing would encourage players to try and play through or conceal injuries due to concerns they would be taken off. That's very counterproductive.

Is there evidence from the NRL to suggest this is the case?

Perhaps, any incident that results in a stoppage that the refs don't initially see should just be put on report and dealt with after the game?

I personally think any instance where a player stops the game because of an injury should result in a substitution, HIA or a green card regardless of whether the game is stopped by the referee or a club doctor. Anyone stopping the game for a head injury should result in an automatic HIA assessment. If contact to the head is bad enough for it to stop the game then it requires a HIA.



I'm sure I saw in a game this weekend (I believe it was Warrington), the Doctor or physio saying a player was fine to play on following a head injury, the ref stated that it would then be a green card, so the Doctor or physio changed his mind and advised the player would go off for a HIA.



I would also scrap the video ref reviewing foul play. If a player knows they won't get a player sent off following the incident, they won't stay down.

They won't implement it because they're petty and won't want it looking like a teams' coach has told them what to do. But the game is dying because of constant interference and this pantomime act of staying down while we wait for the video ref to chime in. There has to be middle ground.
