At FB? This weekend QED. Platt. How the hell is the guy expected to have any confidence when everyone is on his back escapes me.

Thought that was Jeffries...even Halley says so.

.... Gardiner at Saints is therefore the best wing in superleague as he has the most tries , and that has nothing to do with the world class centre playing inside of him .





As much as he gives you heart attacks at times Platt is the better full back and Halley on the wing.

Halley is much better IMO.

yeah and his showboating came within six seconds of costing us the match. He could have put it down in the corner and guaranteed a win but he had to show off and put it down under the sticks- could have backfired big style if hooter had gone while he was jogging across. And dont tell me he knew exactly how much time was left on clock.



On current form platt is our best fullback. sykes had a bit of a mare last week and we only improved in last 20 when platt came on and all match reports I've read say halley was having a mare on saturday apart from the winning try, which even he says jeffries did all the work for.

Looking on SLS Halley had some trouble under the high ball, but so would any fullback barring perhaps Steve Hampson of old. They were superb kicks that really put the pressure on.



As for who should play fullback, I reckon it should be whoever is in the best form. It's good to have competition for places and now we have it for fullback and wing.

exactly - halleys ideal player to have on bench as cover for backs especially whilst godwins out. He can cover wing and fullback and keep the incumbents on their toes. Hard to justify dropping sheriffe when he's scoring good trys and platts improving steadily. halley on bench stops them slipping into their comfort zones. Also wonder if we've considered using dave as cover for the halves, as he was originally signed as a halfback.

How could it have backfired?

When did this new rule come in? I've obviously missed it.

pretty certain I've seen tries disallowed through not been grounded before hooter sounds in past. other scenario would have been a catalans player shoving him into touch while he was coming across to the sticks and if you watch the try back there were a few cats players within reach. Should have grounded the ball the instant he crossed - the conversion wasnt necessary to ensure the result.

He seems to be under the impression that they were playing a game of football

Firstly he was down at the other end of the pitch from the scoreboard and would not have been aware of the exact time.



Second. There were a lot of stops in the second half for video decisions. It wasn't clear to ANYONE if the clock had been stopped every time. Stadium clocks often aren't. there could have been 5 minutes left on the clock and a four point lead would have given us a very nervous finish!



Third. The defenders trying to stop Halley more or less stopped when he crossed the line in the corner. There was plenty of room for him to improve the angle for the kicker.



Fourth. Deacon was off the pitch and we'd already missed one conversion after he left.



Is that showboating or are you making a glib comment on something you haven't even seen?

Yeah but doesn't the game continue until the next time play stops? be that a tackle, ball goes out of play or a try is scored?

The hooter can go at any time. The game doesn't finish until the next tackle is made after that hooter (or the ball is dead). If it goes during a tackle, that is the end.



I could remind you of a certain Wide to West try, but I know we're all sick of hearing about that one!

Natural a winger wants to maximise the kicking angle if easily (unopposed) to do so. This is what he coached to do.

Not unusual that in the heat of battle that a winger is not looking at the clock rather than where his position is and who is gonna pass him the ball.

So.... he did his job as a winger.

What risk did he take without any defended in his way?

This thread proves, if proof were needed, (it isn't!) that some people are never satisfied but will pick fault with anything. Doesn't alter the fact that it was extremely good and clever play by Halley, who at a critical time kept a great position to take the pass, and kept his head to coolly make the extras a formality.



Can't believe anyone who watches the game actually thinks it ends literally as the hooter sounds
