While there is sport, and there is wagering, there'll always be questions over everything. How you stop it is another question? Those who get suckered in and ones who want more money, whether they are superstars or young lads trying to make it.



There are far more bent sports than rugby league, that is for sure.

The minute anyone sees something unusual happening on a sports field these days the first thought seems to be "match fixing".



Fixing the results of team sports would be so difficult as to be virtually impossible. You would need to have every player, coach and match official in on it to be sure of it working, and even then there is the potential for something to happen which screws it up (a player knocking-on with the try line begging, a freak bounce of the ball etc).



The money to be made from fixing sports these days is on events which involve an individual player such as the no-balls bowled by the Pakistani cricketers.

Shouldn't happen, but it always will and the relevant bodies will always take the relevant action.



Sean Long didn't single-handedly bring the game down that time, so I'm not really that worried.

I thought Lebanon would be involved but I thought it was the Wales game as we chucked that game good and proper.



Thankfully things have improved since then, on and off the field.

As Andy Gilder said it's very difficult to fix matches in a team sport. I'd be very surprised if there was match fixing, spot betting (like with the cricket) is possibly more likely but even then is still difficult to do in RL.
