The article says that.
The quote just says "We have reached 40 per cent sales for the overall tournament"
What to believe...

Excellent news. Particularly regarding the smaller venues. I though ticket sales for these would be slow until the end of the season. Great stuff!

I'd like to know the actual percentage of tickets that have been made available so far. If that figure is also... say... 40%... then reaching 40% of sales for the 40% available ticket allocation = 16% in real terms.

There's no evidence provided in that article on actual ticket sales at the smaller venues. In fact, there's no evidence provided on actual ticket sales at all. There's a lot of hot air in that article though.

| I don't really mind what the attendances up to the SEmi Finals are, it will only be remembered for the last few games, if we can get those sold out or near as damn it, then it will be a success for me, I think 44,000 saw the last final at Old Trafford, I think anything less than 60K for the final, whoever is in it will forever be remembered as a failure in ticket sales (not the tournament.)

It makes sense to make comparisons to recent RL world cups (figures below) to judge ticket sales success/failure. The news article is positive and sounds like these figures will be easily beaten.
2000 world cup in UK
Opener 33,758
Semi 16,032 and 8,114
Final 44,329
2008 in Aus
Opener 34,157
Semi 26,659 and 15,855
Final 50,599

| That's great news.....a 500,000 sell out for the tournament will be a great achievement and will ensure that many naysayers, myself included, are made to eat humble pie!

Edit.
589,436 seats/spaces really available over all venues over all games according to the published venue capacities. Depending on their own definition of "available" this release can actually be taken either way.
If they had topped the attendance figure from the 2000 RLWC they would have announced it......if they had cracked 200,000 they would have announced it.....all this release has done is cast doubt on the actual number of seats available at the comp in an attempt to create a rush for tickets based on a perception of demand....I doubt it will work!
If they had sold out any of the England Group games, they would have announced it. I suspect that the only 2 games with a chance of selling out at the group stage are the 2 being played in France.
As usual, English RL fans will wait and see before trying to book a QF ticket and then moaning about lack of availability/Price.
As I say, I will be more than happy to eat my words, but to date, very little in the way of positive news is coming from the organisers.

I get what you're saying, but over 40000 final tickets have been sold alone, that's 14% of the whole tournament tickets just at one game.

The England scrum package sold out, but they didn't announce that.
