The only time I can remember Salford playing Leigh on Grandstand post mid 80s was that time they beat us in the mud in the mud at Hilton Park about 2000. I remember us playing Leigh at home about 1989 on TV when Granada used to show live Saturday afternoon games and it may have been Kevin Tamati's first game as coach. As far as I remember reading, RL cup finals on Grandstand used to peak at 5-6million, and the average cup tie was 2-3 million. Wasn't 20 million about the audience for England V Germany at Italia 90?

My mum took me to the next home game and thus began my love affair with Salford Rugby.

I'm sure we won the game I'm thinking of. The days of Clive Tyldesley doing the commentary.

Aye we did, I remeber it was a miserable day weather wise but I do recall it was our first win in the league that season and I seem to recall it was either Tony Rampling's first game or simply his best. (I think Brooke-Cowden played as well.)

Seem to remember Mark Moran knocking someone's teeth out as well.........

It also may have been the first game we played in the (superb) Cambrian kit with the black bands above and below the sponsors logo.

calderwood has been released by us do you think salford will be intrested and do salford need another winger just a suggestion?

I would like to think the club have sounded him out at least after the Gardner deal went flat, as for do we need another winger, it wouldn't be my top priority but I think McRae feels he could do with another. Broughton and Calderwood on the wings, we certainly wouldn't lack pace out wide. Although Gibson was really good for mine last season and we've brought young Paul Steele into the squad for next season I believe but I'd certainly consider taking Calderwood.

A few months ago, Mark Calderwood was another definite, heard from a reliable source type Salford signing, according to the Hull board. Of course, it never actually happened.



He'd started to look like a decent winger during his latter days at Wigan, but he's been plagued by injuries of late (I think he only played four times for Hull last season). There's a danger he could end up like Joey Hayes - plenty of pace but hamstrung by his hamstring.

Yeah the Calderwood rumours were strong a little while ago. Tend to agree with the above posts - I think he's faded over the last year or so but we do need another winger - we've only really got Broughton and Gibson i think and I prefer Gibson in the Centres - and Calderwood would be a usefull addition if fit and not too expensive
