| The only time I can remember Salford playing Leigh on Grandstand post mid 80s was that time they beat us in the mud in the mud at Hilton Park about 2000. I remember us playing Leigh at home about 1989 on TV when Granada used to show live Saturday afternoon games and it may have been Kevin Tamati's first game as coach. As far as I remember reading, RL cup finals on Grandstand used to peak at 5-6million, and the average cup tie was 2-3 million. Wasn't 20 million about the audience for England V Germany at Italia 90?

Sometimes numbers are separated by a small dot. This is often called a 'decimal point'.
It changes that magnitutde of a number quite considerably.
They are quite easy to miss when reading quickly though.

| did we win in the 1980s i know we lost in the mud in the cup which was gutting @ the time because we are a ready made underdog so getting beat by leigh who @ the time were 1st divison was a kick in the teeth cos we were favourites then started our rivalry imo.........
[size=85That and the massive kickoff in town later that night might have had somthing to do with it[size=85

Yep was 1989. First time i ever watched Salford that. Use to watch the TV games and remember being surprised and excited we had a team near by when it came on. Think we drew 8-8 IIRC?
My mum took me to the next home game and thus began my love affair with Salford Rugby.

I'm sure we won the game I'm thinking of. The days of Clive Tyldesley doing the commentary.

Aye we did, I remeber it was a miserable day weather wise but I do recall it was our first win in the league that season and I seem to recall it was either Tony Rampling's first game or simply his best. (I think Brooke-Cowden played as well.)

| It also may have been the first game we played in the (superb) Cambrian kit with the black bands above and below the sponsors logo.

| Is it me or has this thread become a rambling for every/any rugby topic ?
and is that better than a new topic being started or a pain in the of flicking to page 57/58...
I for one am losing the thread (excuse the pun) as when I flick to the last page I have to work back 2-3 pages to see exactly what the current topic is...

I would like to think the club have sounded him out at least after the Gardner deal went flat, as for do we need another winger, it wouldn't be my top priority but I think McRae feels he could do with another. Broughton and Calderwood on the wings, we certainly wouldn't lack pace out wide. Although Gibson was really good for mine last season and we've brought young Paul Steele into the squad for next season I believe but I'd certainly consider taking Calderwood.

| A few months ago, Mark Calderwood was another definite, heard from a reliable source type Salford signing, according to the Hull board. Of course, it never actually happened.
He'd started to look like a decent winger during his latter days at Wigan, but he's been plagued by injuries of late (I think he only played four times for Hull last season). There's a danger he could end up like Joey Hayes - plenty of pace but hamstrung by his hamstring.

| Yeah the Calderwood rumours were strong a little while ago. Tend to agree with the above posts - I think he's faded over the last year or so but we do need another winger - we've only really got Broughton and Gibson i think and I prefer Gibson in the Centres - and Calderwood would be a usefull addition if fit and not too expensive

Mr Shed. When people TYPE IN CAPITAL LETTERS, do you read it as though the writer is actually shouting? Only, I thought this was just me.
Oh and when somebody posts with the grammatical capability of a five year old, do you picture the contributor as a drooling half-whit literally punching at various keys in no particular order before hitting 'submit'? Unless of course you happen to know the poster and let them off, raising a sypathetic c'est la vie infused smile as you do so. No? Just me?

Wasn't being personal with you there. The broken 'caps lock' trick isn't much of annoyance for me. Although I do read text written in capitals letters louder than lower case text.

If you smile every time you see a post like that on here, you must have cheek muscles the size of Morley's biceps.
