Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. If you are having problems logging in, please try a different browser or platform, if problems persist then email support@rlfans.com

gone to uni apparently? big shock this and IMO i think more young lads will follow suit because there is no money in rugby league or a career when you finish rugby what do you do when you retire?
quote taken from www.thesun.co.uk
TOM ARMSTRONG has rocked St Helens by announcing he is to quit Super League to take a degree at Liverpool University.
Armstrong, 22, is planning to study petro-chemicals over three years but he hopes to earn a part-time deal in the Championship.
The centre — who joined Saints as an 11-year-old — has been registered this season with Leigh, who are under pressure from creditors.
A Saints insider said: "We're shocked as we felt Tommy was ready to increase his 50 first-team appearances so far."
Armstrong's team-mate, second-rower Matty Ashurst, 21, has signed a two-year deal with Salford after weeks of speculation.

| Made the same choice myself at 18, I have still suffered 5 years of knee surgeries and a replacement disc on the way this year. IF you can play in SL for 10 years and then pickup a decent job afterward then you are very lucky.
Some have done it, but many have slipped in to obscurity. Craig Smith retired from Wigan to become a green grocer. How many have gone on to run pubs, not an easy life and not a certain success.

It happens. Shame though.

| Armstrong is average and would end up having an average SL career at Salford, wakey or Quins earning about 30k a year, so I dont blame him for wanting to get a proper education and real job.
