Is Atkins passing the ball more now, because he trusts his winger ?

We should have a separate thread on Atkins. No one is giving him any credit for developing his game. He’s worked really hard to add passing to his skill-set and deserves plaudits for this.



But Charnley is every bit the world-class winger we wanted, and what’s even more pleasing is his enthusiasm and work-rate. It’s clear he brings much more than just quality finishing to the team. When he was at Wigan I saw him just as a show pony who was great at finishing off other people’s good work but he’s a genuinely great all-round winger, and the fact he’s adjusted back to league so quickly is a sign of how hard he’s prepared to work.

If you only saw that about Charnley EasyW, you were blinkered.

He left Wigan a onetime 1st choice goal kicker and also a very good centre to boot!

Maybe Atkins is more comfortable passing to his right than his left.

This is likely, the fact that Charnley is just better will make it easier to pass to him than wingers he has previously played with. I suspect that he is being instructed to get the ball to Charnley as well and fair play to him he has obviously been working hard.



To be honest Atkins being lambasted for not passing has always seemed a bit unfair to me, he does pass to his wingers if they have a better chance of scoring than him but more often than not keeping the ball has been the better option. Atkins biggest problem over the years has been when he has tried to force a pass or offload and turned the ball over, especially on 1st and 2nd tackles he's been a very good player for us but a bit more composure and a better player outside him he would have been even better IMO.

I’ll be the first to admit I was blinkered... it’s the fact he scored so many tries and usually important ones against us that obscured the other stuff he can do!

A motivated Charnley is a fabulous player and he’s clearly that at the minute. I’ll be honest, it’s tough to see him playing in a Warrington shirt but I’m made up he’s back in Rugby League and enjoying himself.



He’ll definitely get a good reception from our fans at the Magic Weekend.

It does make me smile that we are lauding a centre who is belatedy adding passing to his game in the twilight of his career. But fair play.

Yes Atkins is late to the passing game, but he’s made up for that deficiency in the past by being a proven try-scorer not usually needing to pass. Let’s not forget he’s been in the dream team a few times. Maybe lack of competition for his place and inadequate individual coaching meant that he didn’t have cause to develop his game until now.

If you begin to lose a yard of pace...how better to make up for it by finding someone who has'nt.



I'll bet all the tea in China, Atkins got a bigger buzz off that pass to Charnley with 3 men drawn on him than any of his recent touchdowns himself.

Charnley is my favourite signing since Joel Monoghan. He has exceeded my expectations and I expected quite a lot. He's significantly better than I ever gave him credit for before, brilliant player and jusr what we have been crying out for.

He visibly lifts the team too. You can’t see that sort of stuff when a player is in another team. JJB mentioned that Charnley had the same effect with the England team.

This and also what CW8 said. I thought he'd be a finisher but he's surpassed my expectations all round I hope he's here for the long term

Yes Charnley is the type of player you give a 4 year contract to. Not Matty Russell.

Now, lets try to imagine if we had kept hold of Peta Hiku and put him inside Charnley...

Or if we had a half back that had 50% of the impact Charnley has on the team.

There's little wrong with Atkins atm...he's turned a provider with balls that have blown me away.
