| Poor player recruitment has been apparent for a long time... as has poor rugby. Its a shame it takes 5 losses to open people's eyes to this... Gidley was poor last season, but because we were getting results no one noticed.
Needs to be a big clear out of deadwood e.g. Gidley, Brown, Evans, Sims, Westwood, Blythe etc and Smith are all stealing a wage.

| Cox
Bailey
Sandow
Dodds
All in the first team for ONE SINGLE SEASON together before leaving again. This sort of recruitment does not give us a solid settled squad.
Nothing wrong with signing a punt here and there, but you can't fill up the peripheries of your squad with 5 or 6 punts and expect results.'
*Edit - ok just re-read this - Dodds not "in the first team" so to speak, but he was still a punt as we only gave him a one year contract.

Have to say (as a Hull fan) last season Gidley and Sandow looked very good and at atimes unplayable but from the games I've seen you play so far this season Gidley looks done and this maybe one season too many for him.

You're right lets go and get Wayne Bennett. He's sure to leave Brisbane to come over and clean up our mess.

| Quote Ganson's Optician="Ganson's Optician"How can you confidently say that? He is an assistant and is untested as a Head Coach. The situation in Perpignan hasn't been good the past couple of years.
We need a clean break, not someone who has played with the current set of players or under Smith.
Surely as basic continuity-planning, the club is always in touch with various coaches and those in the business will know the options available. I'm sure several more CVs will land on the door step this morning!'"
Do we?
It's not worked out to bad for Wigan appointing Wane has it.

| The parallels with Leeds and their form last season is laughable.
They'd lost Peacock, Leuluia and Sinfield - we've lost Cox, Bailey and Sandow.......
Really ?

| He’ll not survive this season. When it’s over we’ll have had one good season in the past four. That’s not going to be acceptable to a club that’s aiming to be one of the best. I forget the exact words, but I’m sure Roger Draper came up with a mission statement for the club, along the lines of us ‘being the top rugby league club in the world’. Does anyone else remember it?
In the last 4 seasons, we’ve finished 5th, 6th, 1st, then go knows what – 9th at best?
You can’t continue on that mission with a coach with that record. It’s now just a matter of time before he’s replaced.

This is not Wigan, he simply will not play them unless we have lots of injuries to first teamers.

Wane replaced a coach who had just finished top of the table and won the Grand Final, he essentially continued the "mad dog" style of play introduced by McGuire. so I am not sure that the comparison works.

Wigan have far better attacking structures than us, they lose half a team and don't seem to skip a beat.

The constant comparisons to Leeds, Wigan and St Helens are ridiculous. We had our chances to join that elite and blew them all. The only comparison which works for me, is Huddersfield!

Every organisation I've worked in has had some sort of 'vision' or 'mission statement' which is basically an empty statement about a level of success that those producing it never really believe will be achieved but feel they have to pay lip service to showing they are ambitious.
If you ever hear anyone in government talking about how their vision is to deliver 'world class' services then you know they are going to run it down to breaking point.

Leeds also got one third of the work done they wanted to in pre-season due to the training ground being flooded, but no one wanted to acknowledge that, it was just that leeds were sh*t. Still I don't think there's much comparison to be made with leeds, leeds have won 7 grand finals. Warrington have chance after chance since 2010 to a win a grand final and have blown them all.

We were league leaders last season and Grand Finalists. The comparison is Wane was also a number 2 when they appointed him and had also played for the club which disregards your argument 'why should we appoint an ex player we should appoint someone who hasn't had any influence with the current squad'.

| I may be reading into this and getting 5 from 2 plus 2, however the lack of player contract extensions talk may be a flag that at board level, there is some discontent and financial restraint in case a new face requires someone brought in.
Broomhead also calling for more from the players could also be taken that he thinks there is more to come from them but his coach doesn't seem to be able to get it from them. He looks to be trying to give TS a last chance.

| What do we think of appointing Lee briers. It would mean we can get rid of TS immediately, and he has done such a good job with the Academy that he has been made England Academy coach this year - so he already has an impressive pedigree in the game. As an ex player he knows the field side job like the back of his hand, and we could always get someone like John Kear to act as an experienced consultant via 'phone if necessary. That would certainly guarantee us getting into the top 8.

Isn't that what's wrong at Saints ,KC with too many old boys on his backroom staff ? In fact that could have something to do with our present problems.

It's difficult to know, you can always read a bit too much from these sorts of things. There again, they will certainly be keeping a careful eye on this board and if there is too much flak I am sure the Board will act quickly and sack Smith.
